Service Time

  1. Hi,

Time for the 1299s to go in for a service and MOT. i normally use my Indie for my bikes, he is really thorough and gives the whole bike a good going over , decent at setting up suspension etc and offers any adivce on what needs doing.

I am nervous with my cars and bikes and who touches them. Yes i am odd ha-ha.

He has come back to me and said he can't do the service because you need a Ducati computer when doing it. is this right.

I am local to blade Ducati Oxford (bought the bike here) but i don't my pants pulled down for the dealer experiance.

What costs do the main dealers charge.

    cheers

  2. It’s good your man knows his limitations. What’s your mileage/age, as the type of service will be to suit one or both ? Purely my opinion, since Blade was taken over by a (reasonably) local car dealership, the feedback is, they have done little to improve the appalling reputation Blade used to have. This month, you might find a dealer offering discounted ‘winter’ rates. You have Snells at Alton and Moto Rapido just outside Winchester (M3/J9). Both might offer a courtesy bike if the service is a big one. Andy

  3. Just a follow up. Called Blade today and got a price for a basic service on the 1299. seems expensive for a basic service. it had the 7.5K service last time out.

Basic service cost at blade = 331 pounds inc VAT. is this about right seems very high for a basic jobby.

  4. I’d suggest calling another dealer to get a price for comparison?

  5. Yeah i have done now, emailed Moto Rapido to see what they say

  6. Blade is kinda my local. I go to Moto Rapido.

  7. Just had the quote from Moto Rapido. 433 inc the MOT.

Just seems bizzare you need Ducati to do it. it was serviced by Blade and the computer plugged in to reset it at around 8000 miles. my Indie is such a good guy , mechanic and looks after me really well.

How many people have done thier own services and kept the paperwork or used an Indie and got it stamped by them?

Might be worth an investment in a resetting tool.

  8. Annual service or the oil service is 2hrs 12mins according to Ducati, so assuming Blade’s labour rate is around £90/hr that’s £198, add 75 or so for the oil & filter and VAT on the lot and that’s £330.

Maybe their hourly rate is less, maybe they charge less for the oil (or more) but you can see how it gets there.

For what it’s worth I paid €335 for the annual inspection and oil service on my Multi V4S. I could have done it myself but I don’t want to invalidate the warranty. I’m guessing You don’t have a warranty to worry about but I give my cost as an indication of that’s what it is within the franchised dealer network.

  9. I'm going independent this year and will just cover the service light with masking tape. I have a little left over from covering my low fuel warning after repeated fuel sender failure.

Dealers outside of warranty will see less and less business without improvement.

  10. I always get my 1199 serviced during the winter months, the Ducati dealerdhip charge a reduced labour rate of £55/h and will collect and return the bike free of charge within a 30 mile radius. The annual oil and filter dervice etc costs about £250.

  11. Thank you everone for the input, might go for an Indie and then do a dealer one next year and get the light reset then.
I have all the paperwork for the stuff i do and it will be stamped.

Service interval for oil says 12K miles on the download from Paul. so i shouldnt see a service light for a while yet. i only do 3k a year tops

  12. Basic service interval is mileage OR time, whichever comes first. Andy

  13. Ducati lights are sneaky...

They have desmo, annual, oil - every light you can imagine to annoy you and 'force' you to spend, spend, spend.

  14. So the light might come on regardless?

  15. Afraid so. Andy

  16. You should see the cost for the gear to get rid of service lights and read codes. And even then some of it isn't possible without dealer coding.

  17. Adam, I'm in Cheltenham and have an OBDStar diagnostic unit, not a million miles away from Oxford.

Have used it to reset the service indicator on my 2018 1260 Multistrada after I had a trusted independent do the Desmo service. Let me know the exact model and year of your 1299, pretty sure its on the list. Can check in the morning.

  18. Hi Mate,

the bike is a 1299s 2015 plate. that would be cool if you could reset it.

  19. Hi Adam, yes, can confirm that the MY2015 1299s is listed as compatible and uses (like all modern Ducatis) the M037 connector which I have. I've just updated the firmware on my OBDStar so it has the latest features and models.

Just send me a PM to arrange to come over and have it reset. Obvs you absolve me of all risk/culpability in plugging this device into your bike and carrying out the reset.

Need to do a service reset on my Multi, now that it's due an oil service on time since the last reset for this by a franchised Ducati dealer over a year ago. The indi that did my Desmo service late last year also did full fluids and filters at the same time (wanted all this done ahead of a trip to Corsica) so in reality I'm not due another oil service until this September. Please note that service indictors cannot be reset ahead of them coming up on the dash and the required mileage or time being reached. My Desmo service was done a couple of hundred miles ahead of time so I had to tolerate the indicator for this being on for most of the duration of the trip despite the actual work having been done.

Pretty sure that when resetting the oil service you can set the date that the next one is due on time. So you can reset the indicator after the event. As my bike has been in the garage over the winter the time expired a couple of months ago on this. Will check that as correct, or myth, once I get around to doing it...

Using the OBDStar diagnostics tablet I obviously can't apply any firmware updates from Ducati, you need a franchised dealer with their proprietary connection to the factory to do that. I figure with my bike coming on for 5 years old that's not really necessary as it's running sweet/the way that I want it. For example; there was an update a couple of years ago for the Multi extending the hill hold time from 10 seconds to 30 seconds, I wouldn't be able to enable that as it's change of firmware. However, the tablet does make it possible to enable factory accessories, that require it, such as heated grips, spotlights etc. for models where the people responsible for the OBDStar have incorporated this. These are 'switches' incorporated into the existing firmware. Not all features are available on all bikes though. IIRC the 2015 Multis couldn't have spotlights, or was it heated grips, enabled but the 1260 could. They do release software updates adding such things over time though.
