Stuck Bolts And Swing Arm Removal

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Alex-in-wonderland, Feb 8, 2023.

  1. Hello people, hope you can help me.
Firstly the bolts marked 5 in the manual, are they threaded into the swing arm? Or can I tap them out from the bottom? (Ive got the nuts off) After 8 years of road crud building up in the holes and having to so a small archialogical dig to find the heads, I really don't want to strip them out (currently filled up with penetrating fluid)
Second, when it comes to it, driving out the shaft, how much force is too much? do I need the tool? If so does anyone know where I can pick one up?
Third, the rear shock feels like there's a couple of mm travel on it, is this a common problem? How much play is too much?
Thought I'd get it all out in one go.

  2. I'm sure that the bolts are a sort cotter pin and knock out upwards from underneath. it was the same arrangement on the ST.

  3. Cheers guys, they should knock up from underneath, ended up pulling the engine out completely turning it over and knocking them out with a 2kg lump hammer and a punch. Now the shaft, that bugger just won't go, going to knock up a draw bar tomorrow, see how that goes

  4. Not that tool but I have a brass drift that has the right dimensions, just won't move though. I think a draw bar is pretty much the only way at this point. Probably going to have to replace the shaft anyway
