Hi all, I've got a QS on my 1098 but want rid of it. Could use some advice - is it just a case of removing the linkage and then disconnecting the 'brain' (currently installed under the seat)? Anything else I need to be aware of? TIA BJB
No QS on the 1098S that I had. With that in mind, replace the current push rod with the OEM one if you still have it. Remove the brain from under the seat. Trace the wires to where it intercepts the loom and remove the interceptions, re-instating the direct connections. If you are lucky it may be plugged in. If you are unlucky it may be soldered. If in doubt or not confident, get a bike mechanic to remove it.
Thanks Razz. It's an aftermarket one. I've had the bike 2 years and have decided I'd rather use the clutch (street riding only), so it's gotta go. If I don't have the OEM push rod, can I leave the QS one in place? Sorry, you'll have guessed I'm not mechanically minded!
Yes. You can leave them on if switched off on dash. The one on my 1198 was left on and switched off for all the time i had it. Pushrods arent expensive and very easy to fit if you want to change it.
Thanks Sam, Nothing on dash though - there is a little box under the seat. I think I'll switch it off / disconnect for now and seek out a rod. On that note I can't find anything online - any recommendations? Bear in mind I've included '1098' in my search but assume there are generic ones I can use as long as I get the length correct?
I think it's a HM. I'd rather remove it and sell it, TBH as I'll have no need for it. Have been using clutch for a while now, just trying to tidy the bike ump and get it back as close to original as possible.
HM kit is usually bike specific and uses OEM plugs to connect it to the bike. Just follow the cables to where the QS connects to the loom and reinstate the OEM connectors. Then fit the OEM shift rod.
