1993 900ss Cracked Frame

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by ush1000, Mar 7, 2023.

  1. Hi, I have hairline cracks on the frame rails adjacent to headstock, fairly standard I guess. I plan to remove the frame and get the cracks welded up, then tidy up the frame. I don,t think I need to add a brace as well, or do I? Or maybe have gusset plates added?
    Any thoughts or shared experiences?

  2. Thanks, a very interesting thread. I have a bit of oil smoke so will check valve guides too

  4. Likewise, my 900ss has a hairline frame crack, Ian where did you have it welded please, I am looking for a good bike welder. I am in Buckinghamshire IMG_6285.jpg

  5. From Bucks it would be worth talking to Geoff Baines at Silverstone re who he uses - he will have sorted a good few.

  6. Thank you for this lead, I have dropped them an email. Hope they can sort it out! Such great bikes but for this inbuilt flaw!

  7. I'd be slightly surprised if you get a reply to email tbh; I would phone [01327 858510].

  8. I think Andy Sidlowe used to do the Baines boys welding, he made their Project IMOLA frames.
Andy also modified the headstock on Pablo Pirate's "Water cooled Madness" 900SS framed (very) Special.

  9. You are correct - no reply to email, I will give them a call :) Also, keeping an eye out for a replacement frame but appear to be like hen's teeth

  10. Sorry, haven't looked on here for a while. My guy is based near Bath, are you now sorted or would you like his number? Cheers Ian.

  11. Hi Ian, no reply from Baines; it would be good, please to have your guy's details, even if it is to have another quotation for the work. Bath is not too far, and if he did a good job, this is the important point. I like the idea of a brace as it is clearly a weak point and one that might cause a problem again!

  12. Hi Kevin, I've just messaged him & he is happy to help, contact details below:
