Panigale R Gen 2 but I think it’ll be the same across the 1199 family. Near side upper side fairing is secured at the top of the front edge under the nose cone by small, long screw which seems to fix into a well nut? Mine has ‘disappeared’. Is it an ordinary well nut? Nothing seen on the parts diagram.
Best thing to do is leave it lost. They are a pain in the arse! Buy a couple of these and grind a taper onto that bolt. Makes refitting the side panels a doddle.
You’re right about the PItA. Why do Ducati change the size of the fairing bolts here, after keeping the same size for all the rest of them?
Does yours also have the top-hat washer behind that long thin bolt? My 1299 had it and it was guaranteed to fall out during reassembly!
On the v2 and v4 they have made fitting the fairings considerably easier. Still not simple but much better.
Mine has it on my 959 and that was the fitting I was referring to. Not sure Ian’s 1199R is exactly the same but probably is.
The fixing in that position should not be a screw and wellnut, it should be a plastic push rivet (28-29) that locates into the hole on the back of the panel. All of the original panel fixing screws are the same length.
For the older bikes that is correct. But it got changed to the thin bolt arrangement for some reason. My 1299 had the thin bolts from new.
