1299 1299 Sprockets 39t Vs 41t

  1. Chain's starting to show a bit of play so calling it time to change. Had to book in the service and MOT for July so thought I'd ask Snells while on the phone about sprockets. Turns out the standard 39t kit for chain and sprockets is £284 and the 41t R gearing kit is significantly cheaper at £198.

    Having just had the bike tuned by Chris at CJS in November and it now running 193whp, from a bit of a shakedown day on track at the weekend, the last thing that ever really occurred to me was wanting more drive! Am interested to hear the experiences of anyone else that's changed to the 41t rear? Feel like it will help those odd corners where you're caught between 1st/2nd or 2nd/3rd. There's only one event I do that I'm genuinely touching top-end speed so not concerned there
     
  2. do you ride it on the road? if so, it would probably be worth it. A lot of folk tended to shorten up the final drive a bit to help the bikes manners in town, and tbh I don't think the difference will be so big you'll notice a different bike.

    I think if you went down one on the front and up 2 rear, you'd be in the territory of it being a bit of an animal. I think that's what my mates is, but that's a total track bike
     
  3. Snell put 41t on my 1299s because of the availability during lockdown on sprocket carriers etc ,the bike is used only on track and be honest after a few sessions couldn’t feel the difference .No harm in trying and Snell service is top notch.
     
  4. Mate if it helps you, my 2 cents are.
    On my 1299 S, i changed only the rear sprocket. I put the sprocket from the 1299 R (Which was called the Panigale R for some reason)
    It was a direct swap.
    It was a godsend. It was the perfect blend.
    Canyon carving was miles better, i could finally be in the right gear. Especially when in 2nd. I never wanted to really have to use 1st gear. It fixed that. Made 2nd more versatile.
    Decent improvement in manners low down when trundling around town if I had to.

    Didn't have to buy those full kits which cost twice as much and some opinions differ on whether they look good or not...
    I strongly recommend it. Going up in the rear, my bike was much better. But not too wild and undriveable.
