Metzeler M9rr’s - Wow!

  1. I know the Scorpion 2’s are pretty well liked on the Multi, but I’ve never really got on with them since picking up my bike a year back.

They weren’t terrible, just really inert for me. I found them poor on initial turn-in, really vague when banked over and I struggled to tell what the front end was doing / how much grip was available.

It lead me to faff around with the suspension a fair bit to try and get the bike into the right zone for me, which I did but it’s never been as planted or as sure footed as I’d expected (given the rave reviews of the Skyhook suspension).

My MOT was up last week so I took the opportunity to put on a pair of M9RR’s. What a revelation!

Managed a decent run yesterday and I can honestly say the bike is transformed

Much less bar pressure required to get it to turn in and it’s absolutely solid banked over which instills a huge amount of confidence. I can feel what the bike is now doing at the front and it’s properly “talking” to me in a way it never has previously. Small adjustments to lean are totally predictable mid corner and I had my first “wow!” moment on the bike when linking some flowing, National Limit twisties together

I’ve had the M7RR’s on my other bike and knew they were good. But on the Multi, the M9RR’s are simply superb!

If you’re looking for a fast road focused tyre, and not a mixed duty tyre like the Scorpions, they are well worth considering :upyeah:

  2. I am getting some fitted to my V4 Multi on Wednsday.

I have had the M9RRs on my Street Triple for a couple of years now and they are the best road tyres i have ever used.

  3. Ive had a set on my DVT and yes good tyres but needed new 1s at 2500 miles. I've now gone for the roadtec 01se and done about 300 miles and feel really good and hoping for at least 4k miles as my mates are getting around 5k on BMW 1000rr and GS1250 adv. Fingers crossed

  4. 01SE are very good tyres. I’ve had them on a few bikes. Trying to decide what to get next on my V4PP as I’ll need a new rear soon, so might change both

  5. To be fair, if they retain something approximating the feel they have right now for those 2500…….I’d be happy with that.

I’ve done the whole commuter bike and eaking the miles out of a set of tyres when you’re covering 15k a year thing.

This bike is a toy and my only requirement is a broad smile as I’m piling through those 2500 miles really :)

Of course, if they manage 500 miles and then fall off a cliff handling wise, I’d be less happy :yum

  6. To be fair, all new gen sport touring tires will seem WOW compared with Scorpion 2, especially if the latter is past its prime.

  7. Enjoyment is what it's all about mate :upyeah: I'm sure you'll get 2.5k as I'm no slouch even when 2up and touring :joy:

  8. I tried the M9RR's on my 1200 for a tour around Europe and I found them superb too.

However they squirmed a bit so have switched to the Roadtec 01SE and these seem equally as good.

I think the stronger sidewall is helping with stability given the weight of the bike plus me.

  9. It is indeed a Wow from me too. It’s like a different bike.

  10. I have m9rr’s on my 749. I use them for road riding and track days. Have found the grip and confidence they give fantastic. Would have no hesitation in recommending them.
