939 SP Hypermotard 821 Sp Errors

Discussion in 'Hypermotard' started by ibgarrow, Apr 24, 2023.

  1. I’ve just replaced the air filter which entailed removing the tank. To get the filter out without removing the air box, I disconnected the black multi-connector by the headstock. Now I’ve put everything back together, I get “errors 1600” on the dash. Bike starts and runs.
    Any diagnosis?

  2. I read a thread on this which suggested (@Derek) that it might be fuel pump relay, but that seems to work, and the bike runs. Does anyone know if I can get fuller information on the “errors” message from MelcoDiag?

  3. Now that I’ve been able to see detail on the error codes, it’s the rear O2 sensor. When refitting the fuel tank, the cover bolts snagged the wiring and stretched it, presumably breaking one/some.
    I’m in two minds about
    A) checking/replacing the wiring
    B) replacing the sensor
    C) fitting a set of O2 eliminators

  4. Checked the O2 sensor wiring but can’t find a fault. Now considering replacing both with eliminators. Anyone had any experience of those?

  5. Now the biggest Q. How on earth do I get the sensor out of the rear exhaust bank? Has anyone done this? The wiring suggests a socket/ring/box spanner is out.

  6. O2 sensor socket

  7. Try searching for "brake pipe spanner"...

  8. Thanks Chris. Didn’t know there was such a thing. You learn every day.

  9. Got a set arriving this week but will get them fitted when they do the belt service. I read good things about them when searching the internet and am hoping it'll help with the dreadful closed loop fuelling?

  10. Well, I got a pair of unused O2 sensors, one of which has solved the DtC error, apparently. The other has gone into the spare parts box ‘just in case’ along with the replaced relay.
Strangely, even tho’ these are OEM parts with the same ID, the cable is much longer, making for an easier fitting.
