1200 Lamba(map) Sensors

  1. Hi all.
Still trying to get to the bottom of my issues with 2013 MST 1200. Ive gone and done a complete service myself. Started the bike when changing each spark plug and it seemed to be running better. Put a K&N air filter in and an oil and filter change. Started up and, whilst better, still stalls when i touch the throttle occasionally. Fuel consumption is horrendous as well. All of this you would think would be a map sensor but I have no engine warning lights? The question is, would you always get an engine warning light if one or both of the map sensors was bad?
I did get a code reader but can't make it work with the reader. Any suggestions gratefully received

  2. Firstly, your lambda and MAP sensors are two different components.
MAP sensors can fail in two ways and only one will bring on the eml. The only real way to check them is with diagnostics and look at the live data with the motor running.
Lambdas can affect fuel consumption, but again they won’t always fire the eml. A look at the fuel trims being driven by their readings would give a pointer as to whether they’re playing up

  3. Thanks Nelly. My mistake as I thought they were the same. I suppose the only way is to visit the main dealer I guess

  4. Temperature sender is a culprit too, this can affect fueling all the time if faulty.

  5. Take a look at this

  6. Thanks a lot tzoykas. Really helpful. I’m tempted just to replace them both as I’ve had enough of it now!

  7. Did you check the air bleed adjustment in the throttle body manifolds? Sometimes the are really out of sync, causing rough low rpm running and occasionally stalling the engine. Doing it correctly will need a vacuometer tho.

  8. Thanks for the advice Neo. I’ve been away since you posted so apologies for not replying sooner. I haven’t done that yet. Just before I left, I fitted the 2 new map sensors. I started the bike and it definitely seems to be better on tickover. Took her out yesterday but still not right. Tickover is a lot smoother, in fact, normal but still stalls as soon as you stop and touch the throttle! Can you check/adjust the the air bleed adjustment without taking the tank off?

  9. When fitting the new MAP sensors, does the engine have to run through so many cycles before they start to work? I've fitted 2 new ones and, as mentioned to Neo9686, it still stalled when touching the throttle from tick over. Ran it up to the fan kicking in on the stand and now I can't get it to stall when I touch the throttle. Tick over ranges from 1250 too 1350ish RPM. Is that normal or should it stay exactly where it is?

  10. It doesn't.
As soon as I replaced mine and fired it up it was running as it should do.

  11. Update: O2 sensor connectors- addaed some dialectic grease, and to the MAP sensor connectors. Took her out for a 50 mile ride and didn’t stall once! Seems like it fixed.
