A little while back I started looking for reasonably priced options to get a pair of forged alloys on my 1260. A little eBay surfing / forum searching lead me to conclude that 1098S forged wheels woud fit. It was a bit of a gamble as there's a fair amount of "They totally fit" juxtuspose "They totally don't fit" It basically came down to me checking 3rd party forged rim manufacturer data to gain enough confidence that they would in fact fit (it looks like 1098, 1198, 1199 and V4 rears are the same)......so I jumped in and bought a pair. The rear was a track-day rim from a private seller in a not very nice gold finish. The front was an OEM finish rim I bought from a decent breaker (James Sherlock) in case it didn't fit and I had to send it back. I paid a premium for that compared to a private seller, but it was worth it for me. This thread followed: Gold it is!! Unfortunately, getting my hands on Prismatic Powders product turned out to be harder than I thought, and I'm impatient . After a week of trying to get in touch and no success I'd had enough and ended up opting for Suburu GK1 metallic gold instead. It's a deeper gold than the champagne type colours Ducati use on newer bikes, and that's what I wanted Anyway, the rims are done and I've had it out for a quick test ride. What can I say? If you're considering this option, GO FOR IT! The change in handling for my 1260 is really noticeable. It's a big improvement again over what the M9RR's did for the bike. It dives for an apex more quickly now and feels lighter / easier to turn at speed. I've upgrading to forged rims on a number of my other bikes and like them, the Multi really benefits from it Here's a few pics in various lights so you can get an idea of the finish - the bike needs a clean before anyone is offended : Outdoors1 Outdoors2 Outdoors3 Indoors - ceiling lights off Indoors - ceiling lights on
I didn’t weigh my 1098S wheels, but they’ve been weighed by loads of people and the figures are: 1098S Marchesini forged rims Front (bearings in): 3.3KG Rear: 3.8KG My stock black 2018 Multistrada 1260S rims Front (bearings in): 4.1KG Rear: 5.36KG So you’re looking at a good 2.3KG of unstrung mass being saved Doesn’t sound like loads but once you factor in inertia of a spinning wheel and the force required to move it off centre, it’s significant. You can literally feel it every time you push on the bars
MASSIVE !!! but more importantly the handling is so much better Love the colour Relentless I got a pair of Pikes peak wheels last year and couldnt believe the difference it made, they were in excellent condition but if they get roughed up a bit in time I would defo get them done
@Relentless, I consider a difference of 25-30% massive when it's rotating unsprung mass we are talking about! Thanks! @knightrider, are the Pikes Peak wheels actually forged marchesini ones? Maybe I could source some on the net otherwise I guess I'll just lighten my wallet by about 3K € ....

They look great! Had mine on track at Donington yesterday so I bet you'd notice the difference there. It's takes a bit of stopping!
