Yesterday on a very hot ride in Germany, when accelerating heavily in in lower gears the engine would cut just for a split second and then jolt back into life. Almost as though it missed a beat. It happened so infrequently I didn't catch anything on the dash at the time so I'm not sure if it was the traction control or not. But I highly doubt it, given the conditions and acceleration. Any ideas? Outside of it happening a few times over what was a 13 hour hour ride, the bike ran flawlessly.
I found this on my 1260. I put it down to me brushing the quick shifter with my boot. It usually happened when I was being a bit lazy.
I was indeed riding lazy following a friend, tis the first time it's happened so I'll keep this in mind. Thanks mate
Been there, done that : Full throttle splutter/hesitation Your symptoms sound very similar to mine. It’s pretty common on these engines. Tricky one to troubleshoot as the only option is to replace the lead (I replaced both leads and the spark plugs as well just to sure but they looked spot on upon removal). Not hard to do though and a pretty easy DIY IMHO. Oh and it doesn’t throw a code either - I have a code reader and nothing was stored. Mine was much more obvious under high load from low rpm. Started off thinking it was traction control and then, like you the quick shifter / gear change. It wasn’t either

Great feedback - recently bought a 1260 and have noticed exactly what you described. Would you still recommend the Lucas Injector treatment being done at the same time?
I've a similar experience on my 1200, at high revs it would momentarily cut out, as though the kill switch had been flicked off and on quickly, only happened occasionally, turned out to be a faulty side stand switch. May not be the case on yours but, you can bypass the switch easily to rule it out.
Have had a preliminary check done and there is a fault with both the side stand switch and the quickshifter. I have turned the quickshifter off to see if this makes a difference. Annoyingly the fuel gauge is faulty - showing empty when it is actually nearly full. I'm going to book it in to get all the above rectified and a thorough check over. It allegedly had a desmo service before I picked it up but I'm now not convinced. I've already done over a 1000 miles on it, the dealer's warranty was only for 1000 miles.
Mine went the same way, took quickshifter off stripped it down cleaned and oiled it, went ok for 2 weeks at TT then started again, new Quickshifter fitted and it's fine
What fuel are you putting in it? It’s worth checking. I stick with Shell or BP mainly after having running problems with niche brands or Supermarket fuel. Also, run a tank full of high octane through it. If nothing else it will eliminate the possibility. Having said that, only last week my Monster cut under heavy acceleration, it was my foot pressing up the quickshifter for sure. I was hanging off the right hand side at the time.
It happened a few times on my 1260, and occasionally does it on my V4, and I’ve put it down to me being an idiot and trying to change gear with the quick shifter when slightly rolling off the throttle at the same time.
Just got back from a round trip to Devon (500+ miles) and with the quickshifter off it was fine. Awaiting a date to get the faults rectified.
