Managed to bag a touratech seat so I’ll see what all the fuss is about this weekend when I’m off Silverstone Motogp.
You might think what was all the fuss about for the first 80 miles or so... Let us know how you get on with it.
Well, what can I say. After 50 miles my backside was aching. It’s no better than standard and that’s uncomfortable! Due to the scalloped profile it puts pressure on the glutes instead of the cheek bones. I’m having a spare re-profiled and covered so it is flatter so hopefully that will be more comfortable.
Just ask for the price you want on here, you’ll sell it easily as people are always after them. I agree it’s more dished but it was so much better for me as the normal seat tipped me forward into the tank and squashed my plums
I’d bear with it for a couple of hundred miles at least. I suffer with back issues, and the TT seat solved a lot of issues, but not instantly.
I’d love to be able to find one on planet earth to be able to form my own opinion can’t believe how rare they are for such a massive selling bike.
I think you need to give it longer. What riding trousers do you wear? Mine is more comfortable with leathers or textiles, less so with jeans (Rokkertech). However, I do still wear the latter a lot, it's not that bad and still a huge improvement over the OEM one. You say "scalloped", whilst mine does slope upwards towards the very back it's pretty flat. That's as I recall anyway. Would be interested to see a photo.
How do I sit the seat high at the front? I thought it just located into the slots at the front. Thanks
Yes, upper slots at the front. There's also the adjuster pieces that screw to the bottom edges of the seat pan. This jacks up the rear of the seat accordingly as well as providing infill along the sides to fill the gap that results from raising it. There's a corresponding infill strip that needs to be removed on the underside of the leading edge of the pillion seat that fills the resulting gap when the rider seat is in the low position. One, or sometimes both, of these parts are often excluded when a bike is sold 2nd hand. Depends on the height setting that the previous owner has it set on. If this is the case get back to the selling dealer. Failing you can see from the link above that they're not silly money from Ducati. See items 4, 5 and 14 here. You'll also need the correct quantity of the corresponding screws. Items 7 and 13. I've never tried combining the settings myself such as high at the front, low at the back. That might work to alter the angle of the seat I suppose but could also distort the seat pan in the process over time. Run mine in the high setting.
The seat was slightly better on the way back from Silverstone today, so maybe I just need to get used to it.
Standard seat, airflow cover and cycling shorts works for me. Constant air cooling & a dry bum .... always.
