1100 Engine temperature

  1. On a recent trip to Assen, with weather conditions, air temp approx 6 / 7 degrees and rain, my 1100s temp gauge dropped significantly, rare occasions the "low temp" signal flagged up.
Bike is fitted with a full Termi system, no Cat, (so maybe it will run cooler than a stocker)

    Is this normal?
Is there a thermostat in the system which controls flow to the oil cooler?
Maybe blanking some of the ducts to the cooler is the way to go?

    Thoughts?

  2. It's normal on the 1000/1100 to struggle up to temp in poor/cold weather. some people resort to part covering the cooler with duct-tape.

  3. On a recent trip to Germany my 1098 temp would say Low for 30 mins or so.

  4. Yes all you described is normal......
No thermostat on the oil cooler system though some guys in the US have fitted one...Multistrada.net
its easier to block the cooler off in bad/cool weather.....I have cut some thick foam to fit and then remove once the weather improves

  5. Cheers peeps..... my mind is at rest !

  6. If you ride in the rain regularily it may interest you that some of us have used the rear of a monster front muguard to extend the multi's so that water from front wheel goes under the engine instead of straight onto the front cylinder.....the best pics were on Ducatisti so perhaps I will re do them on here.

  7. I don't normally ride in the rain, (unless I've a trip planned)
Would be good to see pics of the mudguard mod tho....

  8. Multistrada Front Mudguard-Fender.JPG

Its very effective and you can get them in different colours.....just takes a little DIY
