Repaint In The Midlands?

Discussion in 'Detailing and cleaning' started by Symon Moore, Jul 26, 2023.

  1. Thinking of maybe keeping the SuperSport now & getting my riding kicks with a project bike. Have something in mind although far from definite, but I’m having trouble getting a “guideline” quote for a plastics repaint/colour change. Anyone know roughly what we’re talking about for that (all the plastics, full fairing etc) & who in the midlands to go to?

  2. A year or so back, I got some quotes for repainting my VFR NC30 fairings , tank, seat etc. Most quotes were around £1100 which included the decals. For a little more some would include the "decals" being sprayed/ airbrushed onto the fairings -which didn't really matter to me.

A guy I know at a local body shop would paint everything for £300 and clear it over the decals for another £100. I never got around to getting the full decal cost from Image works but say its about £220.

So that should give you something to consider, but of course remember the Ukraine war will have added a few quid...

The quotes were for all the work to replicate this:

  3. Had a quote earlier this year to do my 900 Monster in black with candy red dropped in and the whole lot came to £800 and that included the bikini fairing and re-coating the carbon side panels / heel protectors etc

  5. Had the tank, side panels, and seat unit panel repainted, decals applied (decals provided by myself), and clear coated, on my Honda CB250N Superdream, cost me £450 from a paintshop local to me

Also, had a firm quote to get a Yamaha FZR400 3BF full respray, including 'decals' for £1200 +vat, from Dream Machine in Nottingham

  7. Still work in progress, but, it is getting there, at least it runs now :D

  8. Dream machine painted my 1199 a few years ago, the work was spot on but the customer service was terrible

  9. Not had the 3BF done yet, that is another 'work in progress' bike :joy:

  10. I’m struggling to get anyone below £1100.
GPZ900r, strip existing paint, black & red respray (tank & all plastics)
Just seems like a lot to me

  11. Just to add, the tank on my Superdream was stripped, and sand blasted within the price

It was painted by Allied Automotive in Barwell, Leicestershire, when i had my own business, I had a few bits and pieces painted by them, also, my wife had a front bumper for a Freelander 2, painted and fitted by them

  12. I had a 749 fuel tank resprayed/blew in by a local motorcycle painter, £250 top quality workmanship comes at a price. He did a excellent job and wouldn’t hesitate to use him again should the need arise.

He’s based in Penkridge, does a lot of Harley and resto work.

I had asked someone else who was cheaper at £180 but wouldn’t give me a time frame, as in it could be a week could be 6 Months whenever he could do that along with another job at the same time.

  13. Yeah understand that but I’m looking for full respray, not just tank & was expecting about £800 not £11-£1500 like I seem to be getting. Could be I’m just outta touch but it has been a bit of a surprise tbh

  14. I was using the price on the tank as a guide for a full re spray cost if only a tank is £250 a whole bike worth of painted bits is going to be a whole lot more. Anything below £1200 would be a Red flag to me quality wise, £800 to me is an unrealistic price.

To be blunt IMO you are way out of touch with your expectation.

  15. OK guess so

  16. Jeezus, I remember them alright. I had the Z250. Flat as a fart but good on juice. As an apprentice with a 40 mile there and back commute, I had to forgo performance (LC250) for a Z250… :)

  17. Daft suggestion perhaps, but have you considered looking for NOS body parts in the colour you want?

  18. The hours involved in a full respray are not insignificant .
I think you need to adjust your expectations.
