Does anyone have a speedo drive for a 1997 750SS?? When the speedo packed up, I took off the cable to find it was broken, so happily ordered a new one. New one arrived, and I tried to fit it, only to find the broken end of the old one has munched the end of the drive!! Naturally, Ducati have given up supplying these. Money waiting! when you say "munched" is it beyond salvage? i've had several break but managed to hook out the broken bits and square drive still intact.
It's the square drive that's been munched! It looks like the cable partly seized at the bottom by the wheel, and chewed the square drive before it snapped. I might have to try to reinstate it - maybe with the end of a cable as a mould and some chemical metal....
I've repaired something similar using a matchstick that I made the same dimensions as the cable-end square using some heat shrink. Lightly greased for easy removal and surrounded with Araldite...
