Is it possible for the installed Upmap to be lost? I have an 1199R with the Termignoni full system and installed map which displays, or rather displayed “RACING EVO” when the ignition is turned on. For some reason it has stopped displaying this and just goes to the usual instrumentation. Due to work load and injuries I’ve not ridden the bike for around two years. I sent the bike for a service at my local Ducati dealer just under 12 months ago. They collected the bike and returned it, where it was then put straight in my garage where it stayed untouched for around four months. The next time I came to start it there was nothing, no clicking, not even the dash lit up. Upon further investigation I was amazed to discover there was no battery on the bike!. For some reason the bike had come back from the dealer missing the battery!. I rung the dealer in question and explained the situation and assured them I wasn’t trying anything on. They were as baffled as me. Despite the elapsed time they were brilliant and gave me a new battery. I’ve eventually got round to fitting the new battery and the bike starts up fine, but not displaying “RACING EVO” Now due to a dodgy shoulder, the bike having no MOT and the weather being crap and me being soft, I’m unable to take it out. As I said the bike starts fine, I’ve run it up to temperature and it appears to rev as it should with no spluttering or adverse effects. Obviously I probably won’t know for sure until it gets ridden properly, or maybe riding it without the correct mapping could cause damage. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. I did read somewhere that a flat battery could cause the mapping to be lost , but surely that would not be possible? Thanks.
There was a bug in one of the updates we got with the factory diagnostics quite a while back. I had the same thing happen to a customers bike. Ducati will/should sort it out. It’s fairly straight forward, but your dealer will need to sort it as the factory have to generate a patch specific to your VIN.
Is it standard practice to take the bike for a test ride after a service or do some dealers/service centres not bother? My bike was never taken out as the mileage is exactly to the 0.1 of a mile the same now as it has been for the past two years due to me not riding. If the dealer had done the test ride they surely should have spotted the problem and the fact that for whatever reason the battery had been removed.
The splash screen is only visible for a short while. Tbh, I didn't spot it on the bike we had in. If your question regarding the battery removal is because say, the time has reset, that could be down to a software update or the voltage dipping below the voltage threshold on a start up? If it's been parked for 2 years, that's quite likely.. As far as I know, or can remember, the mapping is OK. It was a bug in the software that altered the splash screen. The bike we had rode just fine.

Yes! Came back from having service and mot with no Battery. When it got back I just stuck it in the garage. When I come to start it about two months later there was nothing when I turned the key, and when I plugged in the charger it just registered 0.0. I then discovered the battery was missing! No one at Ducati could offer an explanation. What confuses me even more is it was mot’d ( dealer doesn’t do mot’s so independent mot station )then brought back to me straight away, which begs the question of how did it pass the mot with no battery to start it up with!? I rung the mot station being careful not to sound like was accusing them of anything , and bearing in mind it was two months later, the chap I spoke to didn’t remember my bike, which is understandable considering the number of bikes they deal with and the time scale, but said it would need to be started. He was as confused as me. So all in all a mystery!
