I’ve searched the forum and have seen everything from rapid bike module, ecu flash, custom map and pc. I’ve used pcr in Cannock for my previous bike with great results but have been offered an ecu flash from the specialist who serviced it, but not sure what the difference between a flash and custom map.I just want the bike to be smother at lower revs and through the range. Would changing the gearing help this also? cheers
I had my 899 mapped on the dyno and it made a noticeable difference when rolling on the throttle and maintaining a constant throttle at lower speeds. Much smoother compared to the upmap supplied with the Termi’s. If I did it all again though I’d probably just send the ECU away for a bench flash as I think I’d get pretty much the same result for half the price. I used P3 Tuning in Liverpool and others on here have had a good experience with them too.
I can’t offer any first hand advice on the gearing but I’m sure I’ve read that others with 1199/1299’s have improved the bike by dropping a size on the front sprocket. Someone will be along to confirm I’m sure! Or try the search box
I've got an Upmap on mine, a bespoke dyno set up would be better I know, but I quite like it that I can swap maps for baffles in or out for track days. Not running in "race" mode on the road makes it smoother, but something with so much power/ torque and such huge pistons will never be super smooth a low revs. I had an early big bang R1 years ago with a re-flash that removed all restrictions, so full power in all gears, it was horrible on the road at low speeds, so personally I wouldn't want 200+ hp in first, but better riders than me probably think it's great!
Apparently the flash from the guy who serviced it is from there also. I like to speak to someone when booking work and I don’t get an answer when I call. Looking at pcr performance now as used them in the past with good results but thank you anyway mate
I've been told it you flash the bike then have work done at a dealers where they plug in the diagnostics, it will wipe the flash. Does anyone know if this is true?
Thanks. This put me off having the hyper flashed after fitting the exhaust. Had it booked in at a place in Burnley but cancelled when I got to hear this. A lot of money to just get wiped at the next service.
Surely it will only be wiped if they do an ecu update? My car was mapped a few years ago and main dealer updates had no affect on it. Just a thought on flashing as against a map, I have seen 2 bikes the same requiring different maps fo best performance. One fit sometimes doesn't work for everything
