Heating Oil Transfer

  1. A simple valve/tap on the siphon hose makes it super easy to stop and start the flow.

Only have to get it started once then just close the valve once the container is full - then just open it when you are ready to start the siphon again.

    No sucking kerosene soaked hose!

  2. There must be some kind of hand pump for a reasonable price?

A few years back when our drive was badly snowed in/frozen and the oil delivery truck couldn't get up and we were about to run out of oil, they sent a man in a van with a 200L barrel in the back, he hand pumped it into our tank, only took him a few minutes to do.

  3. I regularly move heating oil from our main storage tank to a smaller tank down the road in a barn, to use as fuel for my old grey fergy Tvo tractor. I just siphon it out with a plain bit of hose into a jerrycan. Quite easy as long as you are careful sucking on the pipe!

  5. Some years ago I used a drill powered pump to do exactly that with kerosene heating oil (which in liquid form is not flammable - it needs to be atomised before it can be combusted at ambient temperatures, I think).
