Tv Issues

  1. I have a 40” Panasonic TV, mounted on the garage wall, it is only plugged into an Apple TV which has a hard wired LAN and a mains supply. I use it for Zwift and the only issue normally is the Zwift needs regular updates.

Tonight I turned the setup on and the picture was clear, but was a number of different windows, the largest one being Zwift that needed an update, which I started with the Apple TV remote. Normally pressing the OK button would make the large window become the full screen. When that didn’t happen I pressed various buttons to no avail eventually I pressed the Aspect button and now it looks like it’s completely knackered. Seems unlikely as the picture was perfect up to that point. I turned off and back on, several times. I found the power button by feel for 30 seconds, as I read that’s a factory reboot, nada.

I’m completely stumped, can’t find the instructions or even the model number/name.

Can anyone offer some practical advice?

  2. Looks like a panel failure im afraid ,cant tell from the bezel design but thats possibly a vestel branded pana or one of the last panasonic made sets before they used vestel
You can buy the glass itself if you want to go down the repair route but its not normally cost effective if you dont have insurance. Some of the main boards are expensive so you might get something for it on ebay if a buyer needs a main board

  3. Thanks for your assistance, I’m finding it hard to believe that pressing the aspect button on the remote controller would cause a catastrophic failure.

  4. With the changes in temperature, moisture will have been drawn to the delicate electronics inside it.

  5. Damp, the biggest killer. As he said above.

  6. Thought this was about something else when I read the title

  7. I can understand damp could be a problem, had I not had a computer in there for over 3 years, and the TV was working perfectly until I pressed the Aspect button.

  8. Sadly I might have to buy a cheap 40” TV just for the garage

  9. Cold and damp have killed it.

  11. Will the setup menu still display? If so try ‘Installation’ and ‘Factory reset’.

  12. My own Panasonic died a few years back ( excellent TVs , back in the day ) ..... the power supply board went bad .
    I could have spent hours/days/weeks poking around with a multi-meter and a scope ....
    ..... but I didn't .
For less than £30 I had a second-hand board delivered the next day .

Regarding Vestel , pretty much everything they touch is garbage ,
on it's journey from the shop to a land-fill , fairly quickly...... I could explain why , but I can't be arsed ....:p
There's a well known discount store in most high streets ( it begins with an "A" ) and nearly every TV they sell
comes from the same place , regardless of which once-respected name is printed on the front .

I wandered off the point there for a minute ...... what was the question again ?

Oh , yes ....... these are the boys you should contact .....

  13. No, I’m hoping my nephew who is more tech savvy will look at it this week

  14. I don’t watch it except for Zwift to avoid cycling in the dark
