Motogp, So Long To “race Shift”?

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by Paul55, Nov 19, 2023.

  1. Is it just me or do MotoGP riders now tap down for first gear at the start of a race? :dizzy:

  2. I think it’s a 6 down box. Neutral is right at the top. I could get used to it quite easily..

  3. And while we’re on, is that bike Diggia, or whatever his name is, that won yesterday, the same as MM gets next year?

  4. Yes and no. Same bike but likely to be a very different set up. Di Gia has finally found a set up that works for him ….. which only took 2 years. Andy

  5. Won’t take MM 2 years  looking forward to seeing the bogey man back ruffling a few feathers :p

  6. Useful article, thank you, but does it answer the "tap down” at the beginning of a race question?
Yeah me too. Why not used on road bikes?

  8. Really, really, really expensive. IIRC, the seamless box was expected to be on the V4SL and then the V4R but a bit of technology too far. Andy

  9. Today’s too far is tomorrow’s job done.

A seamless six speed box would keep Ducati ahead of the competition.

  10. get yourself a FS1E;)

  11. And what's with all the Ducati riders pumping the clutch 5/6 times on the line now ?

  12. I thought GP shift had always been 6 down.
Race shift 1 up and 5 down.

  13. As above straight down box I think with a button now pressed to allow neutral to be engaged

  14. No as you still had neutral between 1 and 2. Think it’s only MGP that have these boxes??

  15. How do you work that out? Pedrosa developed the Honda. All 93 does is throw it into the scenery if it doesn't feel right.

  16. He throws it into the scenery because he’s attempting to push a bike that can’t run at the front. He’s an eight time world champion so I think it’s fair to assume he knows how to ride a bike.

Let’s wait and see if he’s still got it. On a competitive bike/package there will be no excuses. Interesting times again.
