What Do You Wear? Leathers/jeans/jacket?

  1. I've only had one 'off' while wearing armoured jeans, it didn't go fantastically well.
I fell off a Honda CRF250 on a very rocky trail in the mountains in North Vietnam. Unfortunately the rocks I landed on seemed to find areas of my legs where there was absolutely no armour! Cripes! My mates were well entertained for about 15 minutes while I tried to walk that one off!

  2. Paddock jacket,
    Levi 501’s,
    Converse Basketball boots
    Mountain biking gloves
    Centurion crash helmet

  5. How old is the Hein Gericke? I thought they went out of business years ago.

  6. A phoenix company, still seems to have an internet presence in Germany. Andy

  7. Very old Andy! Hein Gericke went bust in 2013. My lovely textile is still in mint condition, although it has not had a great deal of use. Their top of the range products were very high quality and took some beating. I still have leathers and all kinds of stuff from them.

  8. Ah... I thought so... I remember what must be 20 years ago now going to their Bristol store and only being able to afford a pair of gloves. But yes, they did do some top quality stuff which always pays you back in the long run.

And as you say if it gets little action then it will still be perfectly usable even when 10 years + old. I got through a Held two piece Goretex Pro textile suite in around 6 years of commuting when the jacket zip gave up... always bugs me having to check something because a zip needs replacing. Tbf the suit was probably dirt bound as I could never really get it clean & reproofed regardless of how close I tried to follow the instructions.

I suspect as long as my BKS leather jacket doesn't get thrown down the road it'll probably out live me.

  9. One thing worth considering is that although older motorcycle clothing may appear strong, it's often the stitching that wears & rots so offers little protection when the garment meets the tarmac.
Dirt particles & grit get deep into the stitched seam and will act as rubbing compound on the stitching.

  10. I have zips replaced, lucky enough to have a tailor in town.

  11. Ducati leather jacket with hood jeans for short trips on dry days. Held textile jacket for longer trips on dry days. Held textile jacket and held textile jeans for everything else.

  12. All depends where I'm going. If I am just going into the town or a short distance I will wear jeans and leather jacket but if I am going out on a longer run I will wear a 1pc.

  13. Hideout and Hill4Leather will replace any zips. I’ve posted gear to Hideout for zip replacement – simple and straightforward.

  14. A good tailor who you trust are hard to find. Most I've found are 'seamstresses' who do hemming, taking up, frock alterations & such like and I'm not sure what sort of job they would do with protective, waterproof textiles.

Yeah, I found a guy in Bath who was in the leather trade for years and has a little home based business replacing zips & repairs. He did a great job replacing mine.

  15. Do you have a number for him?

  16. A thong and nipple tassells most of the time and a shawl if it's chilly

  19. Possibly in the Summer once I’ve shaved all my body hair. I much prefer remaining hairy in Winter.

  20. Maybe a body stocking?
