M600 Side Stand Switch Question

Discussion in 'Monster' started by MotoNik, Feb 7, 2024.

  1. Hi folks,

Bit of a long-shot - I have a '96 M600, and it has a side stand switch which screws in to a bracket at the base of the side-stand. The switch on mine doesn't quite screw in far enough, so the little pin on the end of the switch doesn't quite touch the side stand when it's up. I can fix this two ways:

    1. Tap a bit more thread so that the switch can be screwed in slightly further. Does anyone know what the thread size is, please?
    2. Fit a little cap to the end of the switch pin, so it sticks out a bit further, and touches the sidestand when retracted. Probably only needs to be 2mm. Anyone know if something like that exists?

    Option 1 is probably easiest.

    Thanks in advance!

    Nik

  2. Sounds like something is wrong if its not working correctly. Maybe your suggestion for point 2 indicates that part of the switch has come off at some point?

I had one on my M900 stand but sold that when I changed over to the ST type stand to go with the centre stand kit I'm going to be using. I might have one laying around in my spares but they are quite delicate a seem to break quite easily unfortunately.

  3. Thanks for your reply. The switch works fine - the little pin that sticks out the end still moves in and out, and crucially works (the warning light goes off when you press it in), but it's just slightly too short to be pressed in when the sidestand comes up. Hence me wanting to tap the thread in the bracket another turn.

  4. Have you checked the parts fiche...the same switch (or maybe not 100% identical) could be used for the rear brake switch? Could be mixed up?

  5. Why not just bypass the switch entirely?

    Do you need it?

    Do you want it?

To bypass it simply follow the cable back from the side stand to where it connects into the loom, disconnect it and bridge to two sockets on the loom side with some wire. Wrap everything in insulation tape to waterproof it and that’s it.

  6. I could bypass it. I guess I’d quite like the bike to be as it left the factory.

  7. I'm surprised you have a side stand switch.
My 99 M900 has no switch but an self retractable stand when bike is vertical. I bet yours should be the same. Are you sure your side stand is the OEM one ??

  8. Is it screwed fully home, or could there be a washer fitted stopping the switch from being mounted deep enough into the stand boss

  9. It’s definitely OEM, and screwed in as far as it’ll go. I had a 900SSie with a ping-up sidestand, it was a liability!!
