I have at the moment a 1200s 2014 multi and have had it for about 18months. I recently put a decat and arrow end can on it and I feel like this bike is missing something for me. I’ve let the idea of having a monster instead into my mind and now can’t get it out. The multi is a great all rounder and very capable but I don’t think I want an all rounder any more especially as I don’t foresee any long trips in the near future. Have had a hankering for a monster but always told myself it wasn’t suitable but now I think I want some monster in my life. The multi doesn’t deliver on that old school Ducati visceral rawness I crave. Anyone else made the move from multi to monster want to share their thoughts. I’m thinking of an S4R testastretta.
S4RS is a fantastic bike, the last and best of the proper Monsters. Got mine about 10 years ago as a year end bonus at work . Real fun bike to ride.
Used to have a 2014 multi, then DVT and now a monster 1200s and I fine the monster much more engaging to ride and for me at least, more comfortable too. The multi can be just too good and doesn't give that buzz the same way the monster does. Just my opinion of course.
How do you find the reach to the bars? Are they a stretch? As that is something the multi lacks, I want a more lower longer stance. Are the seats comfortable? Is the lack of wind protection a concern?
Slightly forwards leaning position but not extreme, seat is ok and I never found it uncomfortable when riding distances but I have only ever ridden it solo. The nose fairing deflects a reasonable amount of wind but sustained motorway type riding would probably get to be a bit of a pain. Probably the most fun of my Ducs - all the others are 1098, 748,916 etc so more extreme riding position.
Hi Hugh Thanks for the input. I had a hypermotard previously and 749/1098 too. I think I let the experience of the hyper ruin my view of all naked bikes as riding that was extreme as I was so exposed from a wind turbulence point of view. Don’t want to make the mistake again, hence the q’s about the monster wind protection.
Obviously there isn't a lot of wind protection on the monster, but I don't mind it as the riding position is more leant forward so you are into the wind, but then again I have had a few naked bikes in my time so used to it. I actually prefer the monster to the multi for the riding I do.
The wind effect is a bit of a subjective thing and depends largely on the individual. I also ride a couple of older classis from the 70's and 80's which are unfaired but I probably don't go at the same rate of knots on them but travelling at "legal" speeds for longer distances shouldn't be too tiring, the nose fairing although small is reasonably effective. S4RS is still a brilliant bike and the engine is a real peach, never had any regrets about getting it.
@paulm2930 As per my signature, I currently have both and per that signature for different reasons. The Multi can do everything in luxury yet it's very sporty. However, it's a big bike. The Monster 1200R by comparison is light, raw and makes you feel like a kid. I can only describe it as your evil conscience.
