1000 Multistrada 1100s

  1. Evening all, I ride an old Multistrada 1100 V-twin which I love. Today I've been looking at Diavels, I don't know why as I love my bike but the whole belt and desmo service thing has come to light, can anybody enlighten me please? I have a pretty good service history with mine but can't see that the belts and desmo service have been done at all, it has done 25000 miles, runs like a dream and pulls like a tank, is this really necessary or is it a Ducati ruse? Mine still goes like stink and I can see off my mates on their Fireblades and R1s in the twisties, what's the point?

  2. You definitely need to get the belts changed on schedule. I used to ride an 1100 too and it was a great bike, especially on the twisties as you say, but all that would be trashed a belt broke. Those belts are age dependent so if a service is due, get it done.
A Desmo service is not cheap but if you use an independent Ducati garage it will be cheaper than a main dealer. And having a full service history is important for reliability and also maximising trade-in value if you get serious about that Diavel.

  3. If you don't want to do a Desmo service a belt change is an easy DIY job.
