748 Magnesium Wheel Weight

  1. I couldn't find the weight online when searching. just picked up some from a lovely forum member!
front and rear bare wheels weigh 7kg for the pair.

that's lighter than my Bst r6 wheels (although the bst has provision for a sprocket carrier)

for a old design wheel they are still very light

  2. I had 2 pairs of those and was always surprised how light the rear was, including the tyre whenever I took it off.

  3. the lightest I've owned are the dymag ca5 carbons. 3 inch wide front, 4 inch rear weighed 3.3kg!

  4. pics of the r6 please :upyeah:

  5. it's a r6 front and rear end in the rg700 project bike.
no inline 4's in my stable anymore. they just don't make me hard like a 2 banger or v twin

  6. Saving weight on wheels is nearly always the best place to lose weight on your bike, I had Dymag 5 spoke magnesium wheels on my 916 and they noticeably refined the riding experience, and I'm not a rider whose 'particularly' sensitive to a bikes set up.
I found because the wheels are unsprung mass acting on the suspension, the lighter Dymag wheels really tracked the road surface so much better, and the lower gyroscopic forces made changing direction at speed easier too. Light wheels are also supposed to increase your acceleration and decrease your braking distances due to the lower centrifugal forces but with my more sedate style of riding I didn't notice that affect as much.

Still the Dymags were worth it for the effects on the handling and corners alone for me.

  8. yeah I'd seen that list. it's quite comprehensive and certainly a good guide.

I've got a set of titax forged wheels coming for another bike. Will be interesting to see how they stack up as they are meant to be really light too

  9. There did used to be a list of 916 era wheel weights somewhere but that didn’t have any of the other varients from other manufacturers.

  10. My oz gass wheels are very light on my 996

  11. does anyone know if the magnesium wheels take the stock rear wheel cone?

the profile looks and feels correct however the flanged section fits on top of the wheel rather than in the wheel if that makes sense?
and yes I won't forget the circlip!
