Hi all, I'm finally getting around to registering the bikes in the UK having relocated. I've spoken with the team at Ducati UK who were extremely helpful and Italy called me on Thursday to discuss my request. However, does anyone know exactly what the folks in Bolonga are looking at/for when they receive the pictures I send them, front, back and both sides, engine and frame numbers? One of the bikes fairly modified.. The helpful Italian chap simply said "we will check conformity" Thanks in advance for any info. Cheers!
The coc is unique to each specific bike that leaves the factory. They compare their notes with the details on the V5 and photos body work and of chassis no etc They sometimes check the silencers model specs and the cat is present on newer bike as these are needed for emissions classification. They will let you know if there are any discrepancies before issuing the CoC.. they spotted my 998s was a biposto with a Mono seat and non-oem ohlins forks . They also spotted an error in my V5 vin from 1st registration. (8 Inplace of a B) Which was a ball ache to resolve with the DVLA.
A modified bike shouldn't stop Ducati issuing you with a coc but the bike specs need to comply with the ALL the deets listed on the coc. General cosmetic mods are ok, major chassis or bodywork mods as well as non standard brakes or exhausts , lights number plate hanger etc could also cause you some issues with the technical inspection (depends on the inspector) .
How old is the bike? I've had "mixed" success with getting a simple confirmation that my bike is really an 851 SP3 (1991 vintage). Sometimes they say it is, sometimes they can't find any records of it... The chap I bought it from, who is very well respected in Ducati circles, is happy it's genuine, so I believe it is. Incidentally, during this process i noticed an error in the V5c document - a "5" instead of an "S". I found a simple guide to getting things like this corrected on the DVLA website, absolutely no problem. https://contact.dvla.gov.uk/vehicle/capture_transaction_type?transaction_type_id=changing_vehicle_or_personal_details_replacing_any_documents_including_a_v5c_registration_document?transaction_type_id=changing_vehicle_or_personal_details_replacing_any_documents_including_a_v5c_registration_document?transaction_type_id=changing_vehicle_or_personal_details_replacing_any_documents_including_a_v5c_registration_document?transaction_type_id=changing_vehicle_or_personal_details_replacing_any_documents_including_a_v5c_registration_document Maybe I should send the corrected V5c to Ducati in Bologna... Or maybe not.
Hmm, Thanks guys - I did think this might be the case in terms of modifications and I'm now wondering if the best solution is just to go through the IVA process for one of the bikes. With regard to non-standard exhausts, forks, bodywork - did you have to change them back for the CoC to be issued? One bike is a Desmocedici and other than the race exhaust and different wheels, it's all standard/oem. The other is a 1198SP, which erm, isn't standard/oem but would say it's a perfectly road load bike as it was road registered when I lived in the UAE (if that counts for much). I'll send the info and pictures off and see what happens. Thanks again.
