  1. I am travelling to Tauranga from Nelson NZ to collect a scrappy old 2006 Multistrada 1000ds.
    What should I be looking for as far as mechanical defects/ problems are concerned?
    Regards John.

  2. welcome john, I've no idea but as you've brought it. Just ask the seller what he/she recommends servicing??

  3. Hi and welcome into our mad house
    @Chris any ideas

  4. Hi John
    There are many areas to look at, i'm hoping others will chip in as it's a lot of typing. One of the main concerns for me is the "dashboard" main instrument taking on moisture and either partially or fully failing. Does it run/does the dash light up ok for starters. Ditto ECU for corrosion and older version (HW103) hard to replace now but you should have later HW610. Sprag starter clutch takes a hammering particularly if bike still has std battery leads and started regularly with a less-than-fully-charged battery, so listen for laboured churning plus unusual noises.. The tank will have swollen by now, but it's no big deal as nothing makes this unsafe unless really severe* - first sign is lots of water bubbles on surface.

    *fuel pump assy mounting flange can distort enough to cause fuel weep, fairly easily checked.

    If you use a search engine then a lot will come up. :upyeah:

    Members on link below can also help you further as more dedicated to this older Multi. I love them, had 3 and would buy another if boxes all tick ok.

  7. Thanks for all the replies.
    Yes the dashboard looks to be taking a bit of moisture, it was a bit foggy after 2 hours riding, but seems to have dried now. Any tips for keeping it out of the rain?
