  5. Hi, thanks for posting this up.

yes some idiot volunteered himself for this torture against all better judgment!!! I have absolutely buggered knees from years of semi pro Ice Hockey and even more years of Pro level falling of motorcycles unexpectedly :joy:. I’ve has three reconstructions on one, pretty much zero cartilage and osteoarthritis with bone spurs, so yeah, running was not the greatest idea.

My sister was running the half marathon in aid of KSS Air Ambulance but she too suffered a torn ACL when slipping on a wet surface . She had to pull out of the 2023 marathon and as some consolation I said I would run the 2024 marathon with her .

The short version is training stopped as quick as it started. My knees were killing and the pain unbearable. In the end I had two options, keep training and run injured, or stop training and run unfit…. I chose the latter. With about 10 days to go before the half marathon I decided it was the perfect time to get a stonking chest and sinus infection : unamused:. I managed to shake it off to a reasonable degree but even on race day I was still blowing out blood clots from my nose and spitting out alien fluids m my chest. Not one to ever be beaten by anything, I still ran the marathon and much to my sisters surprise I ran the first 10 miles solid. The last 2 miles was 60/40 run/walking and by the last mile I was blowing out my arse !!! My average heart rate across the run was 196bpm which my sister says was borderline lethal but I did it . To top it all, we have now raised and handed over £15 000 to KSS air Ambulance.

This pic was taken with less than a mile to go , by a mate who was working as a photographer for the run. His photoshop skills are next level, I still look remotely human after 13 miles of torture
