916 916 - Sidestand Lean Angle

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Unrapid, Mar 29, 2024.

  1. Hi Everyone,

    I've tried to find the answer to this in the existing threads but couldn't find anything;

    I've just bought a used 916 (my first Ducati) and wondered if it is supposed to lean over so far when on its side stand? Been riding bikes over 40 years and never had a bike lean over so much - there must be an issue somewhere!

    Just wondered if it is a common 916 issue and whether there is a known way of addressing it.

    Many thanks

  2. Make sure the side stand bracket to engine case bolts are tight.

  3. This is normal…….
    I carry a plastic puck with me just in case.

  4. Yes it's "normal", but check the ride-height too. The eccentric Hub setup of the Rear axle means that if set correctly, but if the tie rod has been extended for whatever reason, the ride-height can be very high. This plus a short and slightly unusual side stand can create some very extreme lean angles.

  5. Not untypical but as RickyX says, make sure it’s all tight. A common mod is to fit the side stand from a 1098 which is slightly longer. Did the mod to my 748R. Andy

  7. Had my bike from new - original stand. It is fine... until, I guess, some bright spark dispels the laws of physics...

  8. +1 for the 1098 mod. Swapped the OEM one out on my 998S. Didn't stop it getting nicked though.

  9. +1 here on my 916. 1098 side stand and frequently check the bracket and bolts. A bike leaning too far when you put it on its side stand is very unpleasant…

  10. Thanks for all your help everyone - much appreciated :upyeah:

  11. Bit late to the party. But a 100% agreement with swapping in a 1098 stand. God knows what they were thinking with the original stand length/angle.
