The main advantage of the Ducati ones is that they work with the switch already installed on the bike (once activated by the dealer) and not all (if any) of the aftermarket ones do.
I have mine wired into a small 90 degree DIN plug connected to the 12v outlet to the right of the dash. It is ignition switched so comes on and goes off automatically when I start and stop the bike .
I bought a set of lights on here a short while back, I then went and bought the OEM crash bars for an easier fit. I have enabled the switch, so I know they now work but have yet to get around to fitting them. I did not get them for the additional lighting effect. I noticed last year when a friend was following me on his Multi, how visible they made him. That is why I bought them. On motorways especially, being more visible is good
I think you can in the menu options, would need to check but yea, I've never needed/wanted to disable them.
I can only concur as this is my same experience on my V4, even considering what a great headlight it already has. I don’t ride at night on purpose but when I have I’ve found the added light very useful on unlit roads. If it makes me more visible too then it’s a no brainer.
Was impressed when touring with a mate riding a GS quite a few years ago as to how visible he was from afar during the day; Christmas tree effect. Bought an OEM set for the Multi from someone on here, fitted them and had them activated (can do that myself now with OBDStar) and they've been great. I tend to have them a little on the high side to make them noticeable. Fellow riders have mentioned how effective they are. The only slight pain is having to remember to turn them on every time as they default to off. I'll take that over a 3rd party non CANBUS set for the neat mounting and integrated nature re. having the switch on the switch cluster.
Would be worth asking them if they'd skip the fee to 'enable' the lights at the ECU as this cost me £50 at Riders Bristol for the pleasure.
Totally agree with bumpkin l do Europe trips my mate on his multistrada,I’m on the gs and he was invisible fitted spots on his multi when we got back chalk and cheese the difference it’s made
if anyone wants the facility enabling, its worth asking on here if anyone with an OBDstar is anywhere near, as they (we) are able to do that on DVT onwards bikes.
Alton said they could supply and fit a set of the small black units for £400 as the bike will be stripped down for the belts anyway. Think I'll go for that
£50 is just plain mean. Mine said turn up when you like and we’ll do it, even made me a cuppa. And it was free. I had fitted them myself but they supplied the parts.
I've got the OBDStar, near York if anyone wants to experiment. It definitely has the lights and heated grips enable/disable function though I didn't try changing it as mine already has both enabled.
Agree on the meanness - Riders Bristol simply don't understand that doing a mouse-click freebie makes for good customer relations...
First ride out last night with the new spotlights and this is what I've noticed. From the front the do look bright, approaching cars will defo notice these extra spots of light (I think one car flashed me thinking I had hi-beam on) From the riders prospective, down an unlit dark country lane with tall trees on both sides, the lights threw a "cone" of light out front and to the sides, but that light beam went up the sides of the trees like 20 ft high ! I was hoping for the light to go out low in front like car fog lights. They look level to the eye on first check, but maybe they need tipping down a bit Any thoughts ?
