Anyone running a recent iphone such as the 14 pro with a quad lock plus vibration damper, tempted to get one for occasional use not daily but a bit concerned about some reports saying iphones still being damaged even with the damper fitted. Bikes an 848 evo if it makes a difference.. Thanks
Not a direct comparison by any means but running a Samsung Galaxy S22 with an SP Connect setup on my Multistrada. Use their wireless charging/anti vibration mount along with the moto mount pro and haven't had issues with the camera IS yet. After selling my Garmin Zumo I have now moved the location to above the instruments on the existing Ducati GPS mount, more in my line of sight, using the GPS cradle mount, this has the required AMPS hole pattern (was thinking of just drilling the Ducati mount plate and screwing the AV mount to that). When you factor in the cable for the wireless charger it really does stack up costs wise... However, the SP Connect kit is very well engineered and they have good customer support and decent 2 year warranty.
There's a member selling a moto mount pro (Ducati branded version) here, albeit including two cases for iPhones earlier than yours. Maybe you could negotiate a split sale... Much the same as Quadlock the SP Connect is modular so you'd need to add an anti vibration mount to that as well as an appropriate case.
Thanks yes I did see that, I would need a ball mount for my bike and different phone case plus the vibration mount so I think im better getting a new system
Yes - have run a 13 pro for 18 months with no negative impacts (000’s of miles), and have just had 15 pro max delivered, one ride out and no damage….yet.
Ah, yes, good point; I presume that the 848 would require a stem, or threaded mount rather than a bar mount.
Yeah I have a 1 inch ball fitting attached to the clip on works really well, they sell them on Amazon
Thanks good to here, there is a quite lot of people on forums etc saying they killed the camera even with the vibration adaptor but also many saying like you and never had an problem..
It is not just some random bloke on the internet or down the pub. Apple have made statements about the subject. In November 2023 they said "It is not recommended to attach your iPhone to motorcycles with high-power or high-volume engines due to the amplitude of the vibration in certain frequency ranges that they generate" Seems the camera is active all the time the phone is unlocked on an iPhone even though you're not in the camera app. The vibrations play havoc with both the OIS and the closed loop AF system in the camera. It makes sense really because these are mechanical parts of the phone and must be very sensitive. Apple also say if you use a vibration mount then it is recommended to avoid regular use for prolonged periods to further lessen the risk of damage. This really puts me off, I got a car play head unit for the handlebars.
Yeah don't think i'll risk it, its only for the odd occasion i'm going somewhere that Im not sure how to get to like a bike night out the area.
I’m the same, worry about my phone, so bought a beeline device, work great for the odd time I get lost or just need a little help with a route.
Please do check this for yourself but I seem to remember quad lock offering some sort of guarantee - might not be worth the “paper” it’s written on, but I think at one point they were so confident they were really backing their products. Ultimately it’s your phone so you gotta do what you think is most sensible, I totally accept that Apple said “don’t….” but I am sticking with it - if it breaks I’ll post up, I don’t mind being wrong if it stops someone else’s blunder!
I can't fit that as I have gilles variobars so I did this:- ( and it doesnt block the view of the dash)
I’ve done tens of thousands of miles with my iPhone mounted on an SP Connect dampered mount, with no issues whatsoever.
Interestingly i've just read 2 reports by Bennetts bike social where they interview Quad lock and SP connect last year and they both say the same thing about iphones, it seems the new models from the 13 onwards have a different OIS system. "So far, over 95% of the issues involve Apple smartphones. Of these, mostly devices in the iPhone X, 11 and 12 series are affected (there are no issues with the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which has an OIS design called Sensor-Shift OIS). Issues associated with the iPhone 13 series are very rare. No issues have been reported with the iPhone 14 series. (All models of the iPhone 13 & 14 series use sensor-shift OIS.)"
Interesting. I've had an iPhone 12 Pro (not Max) since launch in 2020 and have had no issues. Having said that I had an X before that for three years and no problem with that either. I only added the vibration dampener when I got the 12 Pro. FWIW, I think the mounting location makes difference. Mine have always been mouted above the clocks on my adventure-style bikes. Most of the problems I've read about are where the mount is attached to the bars, particularly in the centre between the forks. Presumably this is where worst of the vibrations are focussed.
I think the mounting place will be a factor, I have a ball mount on the end of the clipon which may be better than mounting on the top clamp between both forks. The full termi slash cut system might not help though lol
I've an Iphone 13 mini, with quadlock inc vibration damper. I've had no problems, but even with the damper it does vibrate a surprising amount.
