Hi all , Anyone ever have this problem , it’s on my monster 821 , engine light and triangle symbol came up on the dash and will only Rev to about 4K revs . I had fitted new handlebars and then this happened on first ride after about two weeks of fitting them . I’m thinking flying bye wire because I had to remove the throttle and the spring came out and I had to refitted everything and now this light , do you think a new fly bye wire or just a reset ?
Happened to me last year, it was a throttle position sensor. Took it to DMC Stoke who fixed it. £300 IIRC
I was thinking that also but I’m wondering by removing the throttle would have anything to do with it or is it just a coincidence
Is it possible something became unseated or not put back in quite right as it went back together? From what I remember at the time some people on various fora had managed to fix theirs, I just wanted it done quick so I got the dealer to do it. You might be able to do it yourself?
I have taken it apart again tonight and cleaned it but it’s still there , I’ll probably get it out tomorrow evening and see will it clear after several minutes
Sounds like it’s gone into limp mode. There’s two tracks in the throttle for the throttle signal. One has to check off against the other for safety. When the throttle housing was disturbed, it’s possible one of the tracks might have been damaged? A new throttle or APS is probably the solution. It’ll need a reset/calibration op with diagnostics after fitment though so likely a trip to the dealer.
Yeah I’ve seen the 2 tracks and gave them a clean , but yeah I’d say it’s a new throttle I’m gonna need. Jaysus they seem very sensitive
Update : I got the bike sorted yesterday , I had ordered a brand new throttle , plugged it straight in and all working now
