Hi all, Multi 1200s 2013. While removing the fuel tank for a Desmo service the Left hose (IN) quick-release coupling outer ring broke - see photo. My questions. 1. Is it critical that the connector is replaced or will it be safe to use the connector as is and secured with a zip tie if possible. 2. Are these connectors / fuel hoses under any pressure? 3. If the connector must be replaced (are available on ebay but not through Ducati). Is it easy to pull it out of the hose or is it glued in any way. Your advice please.
You could clip it together and then put a cable tie around the broken band but personally I’d replace it, not worth the risk with petrol and hot engines.
The bit that’s missing and the bit on the other side are used to push the circle into an oval to release the clips. The clips themselves are fixed into the base of the unit. When pushed into the tank fitting the clips are securely hold the fitting into the tank as they are secured at the base of the fitting. The only bit that’s compromised to me is the ability to remove the fitting by pushing on both sides. Does that make any sense I’m not sure!
I thought it was the two prongs sticking out (9 o'clock and 3 o’clock on the photo) that locked it in place and that break may mean it won’t have the tension to hold properly. I may be wrong though.
@OMG - It makes good sense and yes will make it really difficult to disconnect next time - already is PITA. @Zeus - Agree as well. Possibly the best way forward (safest and easier to disconnect in the future) is to replace the connector which bring us to the 3rd question. Easy to remove or must be cut off?
Do not process plastic quick-release fasteners on the fuel line below 10°C, as they may break. Warm up with hot air before use, Tank quick-release fasteners are shrunk into the line with heat. Yes, the line is under pressure. Quick update. Received the new connector from eBay. It was impossible to pull off the old connector as the hose has a hard inner skin/ sleeve. The outside rubber was coming off but the inner skin was stuck on the connector. At the end I cut off about 2/3 of an inch, warmed the hose and pushed the new connector that was slightly bigger by about 1 -2 mm. To be on the safe side I put a jubilee clip as well. My worry now is whether the hose is too short - will find out after Desmo is finished and the tank goes back...

Final update. All done and after more than 800 miles all is fine - checked before and after ride. Hose is long enough to reach easily. A good tip is to ensure that the o-rings are well lubricated before pushing in. Thanks to all
