Sc1000 / Monster? Clock Needle Replacement

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by MDundee, Jun 8, 2024.

  1. Hi all!

I've been battling a broken RPM needle for a while now; the clear stem of the plastic needle is split, so it won't hold on the motor shaft. I've tried gluing it, aiding it with silicone, but it's shot. Can't find any needles available with a stem long enough to go through the clock to the shaft... any ideas on replacements? It would be tragic to have to buy a clock set just for needles!

  2. Google speedometer repair. There are plenty of people out there offering a repair service. Give them a call as it may be possible to re-sleeve the needle to repair the split and restore the friction fit.

  3. Good shout actually Chris. I’d googled the heck out of it trying to find similar needles available separately, didn’t think about repairing the needle like that!

  4. Several years ago whilst fixing my rev counter I broke the stem of the needle off. I managed to rebond the stem onto the needle using a specialist glue containing Dichloromethane Acrylic Adhesive. Assuming your needle stem is an acrylic this glue basically softens the edges of the material and basically welds them together. Worked great for me.

  5. Drama I’ve got is the tube\Stem is split down it’s length; I’ve tried regluing it but I think the slight diameter increase from the crack/repair is causing a lack of friction in the fit. No idea how it’s happened

  6. You should be able to rebond the crack with the correct glue. The correct glue fuses the two parts i.e crack together forming a strong bond.
