1260 Front Axle Grease

  1. I'm assuming the usual Shell Gadus S2 V220AD (got tonnes of the stuff)? I ask as I removed the axle sleeve and there isn't an ounce of grease on it. Nada... Did something change or is this just lazy work from the factory/Ducati garage?

    Thanks!

  2. I just use Castrol LM grease for this, have had the same tin since I was a teenager. The manual says "Molybdenum disulphide grease, high mechanical stress and high temperature resistant." - "SHELL Retinax HDX2 or SHELL Gadius S2 V220 AD 2". So, yes, you're bang-on correct.

  3. Any old grease (which is what I use) is better than no grease I guess.

  4. I’m lazy, I use “white” grease in an aerosol :D Andy

  5. Thanks mate, exactly what I was looking for. Bike goes in for it's desmo at the end of the month, there are multiple areas that the bike is very much not up to spec, this being one of them. I'm gonna have a chat with the head mechanic as even silly things like fork alignment is not being done after removing the wheel (as evident on the last 2 bikes I bought from them).

It doesn't mean anything to me as I'll just correct the issues at some point. But 2 bikes in a row... Maybe their jnr mechanic is on the Granja during the day or something lol

  6. I too use Castrol LM from a tin I have had for donkeys years.
Can't be a lot of profit in that product line!

  7. My dad had a huge tin of grease he bought in 1933. Was still using it in 1973.

  8. I think the average Joe should get an award for making it through a tub of grease in one lifetime. I too have grease that's older than some politicians!

  9. You are not using enough. A front spindle needs at least half a pot. Some on the outside to ease the spindle through the spacers and bearings. The rest? Use it to pack out the hollow spindle to prevent water ingress!:innocent:

  10. That all adds to unsprung weight. Lol
Plus some could find it's way onto the brakes / tyres

  11. Still got the same tin of grease I bought in 1978, about halfway through so should see me out and I can pass it on to my daughters to share!
