Reducing Engine Braking Of Hyper 939sp

Discussion in 'Hypermotard' started by Arctic Silk, Jun 17, 2024.

  1. Hi all,
Had the Hyper for 2 years now and mega happy with it. It’s got a full Termi exhaust, been mapped to smooth everything out as it was popping and back-firing, but it has always been VERY heavy on the engine braking.
Is there a way to reduce it as I find that slower tighter corners such as small roundabouts don’t always fill me with the confidence I would like. I don’t really touch the brakes at all, but I do find that it can almost be a bit jerky by the time I start to bring the throttle back on mid corner etc.
can this be adjusted by valve clearance setup or is it just a characteristic of the engine in general? Anyone else found similar?
    Cheers

  2. Set the idle speed higher and that will reduce engine braking.

  3. So how does that help then? I thought engine braking was to do with valve overlap?? Changing the idle will do bugger all in my experience.

  4. My monster throttle was very snatchy in tight corners on small throttle openings such as mini roundabouts etc. I fitted some throttle spacers and it smoothed it right out.

  5. I agree - the 939 could do with a little less engine braking, despite the slipper clutch. Having it easily tweakable on the dash would have been a good thing. There's no easy way that I know of setting idle higher, but I haven't delved into the ECU yet....

  6. Brake harder to reduce speed then drive into the corner.

    Don’t get an 1100 2V Hyper…

  7. I know years ago MotoRapido told me they could re-profile the EBC in the ECU, worth speaking to them to see if they can do something to it to basically smooth the engine brake out (ie allow the throttles to stay open and create less vacuum
