1200 DVT Poor Running (after Fueling)

  1. Any advice on this one, bike was running fine, stopped for fuel and within about 2-3 miles I lose power, still runs but struggling to pull uphill in 3rd gear, stop at lights and the bike won’t Rev, manage to coax it 10 miles home, the display was flashing “Touring” and a DSS icon flashing and the engine light flashing.
    My first thought was water in fuel, but I’ve not seen the flashing Touring and DSS lights on the display before?
    Is it possible to read fault codes? Or does it need to go to the dealer?

  3. It was almost empty, and I filled it, I think it would have been smoking like a teenager if I’d filled with diesel!
     
  4. OBDstar Iscan can read fault codes. If you know anyone near you that has 1 otherwise it will be to a dealer to do it
     
  5. It really sounds like diesel, have you checked the fuel it's self? Either by smelling it, or even dipping the fingies and feeling (it'll be oilier than normal fuel)?

    Smoking is indeed a sign, but not always present and by the sounds of it, those symptoms are in line with putting diesel in a petrol engine.

  7. It appears that modern Ducati's are multi fuel burners. Try some chip fat perhaps?
     
  8. Diesel would produce a lot of smoke, clouds of smoke. Especially in a Fireblade :joy: and it wasn't me :D Andy

  9. One of the supermarkets had a bad batch of petrol quite a few years ago, can't remember the details but it does happen.

    Drain it and put some new stuff in from a different petrol station?
     
  10. It could be contained/crap fuel... I had that once... if so the fuel won't smell right.
    I always fill with high octane from Shell or BP and as a rule avoid supermarket fuels!

  12. You really need to get the bike plugged into a diagnostic computer to read the codes.

    The lack of power, inability to rev the engine sounds like an issue with the APS sensor at the throttle.

    We could all try and second guess why the Touring & DSS lights are flashing (a lot of the systems on the bike are interlinked between ECU & BBS etc) but without knowing exactly what errors have been recorded they are just guesses. Best to get the bike plugged in IMO.

    ps. Diesel v petrol is discounted (or not) soon enough by smell and touch.
