Has anyone got any good advice on how to rekey your panniers and topbox if swapping them onto a new bike?
Your new new (?) bike should be delivered with 3 locks for panniers and top box. Get the dealer to swap them over. Andy
Your Rally should be supplied with 3 locks that match the ignition key regardless of if you bought luggage. Those locks should fit your V4S luggage. Andy
Gotcha - just checked and it comes with three barrels. So just need to strip them down, remove the old barrels and stick the new ones in
That's what I've done on mine. Pay attention when pulling it apart, washers, ball barings, and uniqely coded parts. If you pull it all apart too hastily, you'll be scratching your head how to put it back together. Also one barrel is either longer or shorter than the remaining two - that's for top box.
And don't forget to use Loctite (or similar) on the single panhead fastener that retains the lock cylinder for the Top Box, or else you'll be re-keying another lock cylinder. Ask me how I know...
I got new locks for my panniers , was a piece of cake to fit , once you know how to dismantle the panniers , there’s videos on utube.
I actually got round to changing them at the weekend. Top box was pretty simple, only two small screws holding the whole mechanism in place. Thanks CHUKI for the video above, this shows how to get the the pannier barrels out. A lot more fiddly so it’s a case of being methodical and patient, but all done now. I’ve put the red covers back on and they look pretty good on my Red/Aluminium Rally. So if anyone in the UK is after a set of V4S Sport Colour matched covers (from Vulture Bike) then message me.
