  1. Hi All, Question:
The front rotors feel really rigid on the mounts of my 2001 996S.
Is this how it is supposed to be or are the bobbins stuck due to the lack of the bike hardly being ridden?
On my BMW's the rotors are full floaters and feel really lose despite being stored for a long time.
    Thanks! Frank.

  2. That's how they are, they can flex a little under braking but don't really 'float' as such.

You can get full floating buttons to fit them though...

  3. The cast iron Brembo disks fitted to some Ducati’s in the 90s were fully floating and usually rattled like tambourines. They still pop up now and again 2nd hand. I’ve fitted these to my 916 & they were standard on my Superlight. I think the posh aftermarket Brembos are floating but the cheaper replacement ones (black centres?) aren’t as I have a set of those if my Mot tester gets upset about the free play in the cast iron ones fitted.

Yup! Same on the Beemer. Thanks to both of you for the quick reply.. so nothing to worry about on the 996.

  5. today i loosened mine off, one disc was solid, then squirted some WD40 on to keep them loose.

    now they rattle like tambourines

  6. I've got 3 sets of those iron discs in the garage with carriers worn beyond the limit of the mot tester.
Now running the black centred brembos.

  7. Will the wd40 remnants not fling out onto the disc?

  8. I would just flush it away and have done with it.
