Hi all Been looking at getting a decent 2 piece. My one piece suite is to much for what I want it for. Been looking at Alpinestars & Dainese. The latter I know make a 2 piece called Mistel & is advertised via many well known shops but online a Dainese Mistletoe comes up, but it only seems to be on eBay. Is the Mistletoe suite a genuine Dainese or is it a copy? I know there’s plenty of replicas out there.
It would appear to be an auto translation issue. Found a seller where it’s listed as a Mistel 2 piece in the body of the listing, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/31445658...&brand=Dainese&_trksid=p2351460.c100667.m2042. Andy
Ahh yes. The link I found was an eBay link but after reading the description thoroughly it does say Mistel. My bad.
Does anyone know how the sizes for Dainese vs Alpinestars are? My Alpinestars 1 piece is a euro 52 & seems a snug ish fit.
My old Alpinestar, Ben Bostrum suit was marginally more generous than the more recent Dainese suit I had to return. My ‘go to’ Dainese jacket with removable thermal lining, is an EU60. My 2 piece Dainese track leathers are an EU58. I’m broad shouldered with a 46” chest and 17.5” neck (about 6’4”/upper reaches of 16 stone. Andy
I have broad shoulders & in the 1 piece if I find a good fit for the top half they’re baggy around the arse so generally have to go for a snug fit on top so it don’t look like I’ve had an accident in my pants. This is ok when sitting on or riding the bike but uncomfortable when walking around.
I now always try leathers on before purchase. I think the whole point of them is to be a second skin so when the unfortunate happens you slide without snagging or folding.
That article was printed in 2017, standards and manufacturing have moved on. Doesn’t mean everything out there is rosie but things are not as bad as the article paints today. Andy
I have both a 1 and 2 peice dainese set and a couple of pairs of in-boots. The sizing info on Dainese site is very accurate imo, well it is for me. I'm a 48EU. Ive not had any issues with either. Both seem to be well made, but ive crashed in neither. I only have Dainese coz I wanted a VR46 jacket, other wise Furygan would be my choice. But in-boots restrict you to dainese. I used to use Daytona, but after being knocked off my 1198 at 2mph they fell apart. These were the good boots too, expensive. Messaged them, basically told to get stuffed. So fuck em, never using them again. I crashed loads in Furygan and they were brilliant throughout. The stitching and the leather held up really well. I slid down the road after an off at about 80mph and it was just grazing, even the thread took the wear well. Comfy and well made were my impression. I like my laguna seca 5, but your foot can get caught on lining and has had me fall over a few times putting them on.
ive also crashed in furygan and would buy them again (as would mr dunlop). same as spidi. two brands of many that dont have the marketing/sponsorship clout of the others but still produce more of their products in the EU to a higher standard than many of the more well known brands. and lets not forget good old british brands like hideout that kit out our forces i dont think anyone should be recommending any crash protection until theyve crashed in it! and ultimately it all comes down to fit. the most tech advanced super dooper suit with air bag and widgets wont do what its supposed to if it dont fit proper
Disappointingly, someone in the industry told me many brands are producing lower-quality clothing since the advent of EN 17092. Often, they’re now built to pass the minimum test standard. Today’s Dainese race suits are only AA-rated (except for the AAA-rated Mugello). I like Halvarssons, but the company reduced its Hi-Art® coverage since the EN 17092 standard came into effect. I trust the British-made brands (Hideout, BKS, etc.) more than any others.
If it helps.... I'm a 44 chest and 35 (weird I know) waist. I'm 5'11'' and 13st 7lb. I have a 54 Dainese jacket and the trousers are a 52 - they are pretty much perfect.
Some good pointers. A search for 2 piece leathers on google only really seems to bring up Alpinestars & Dainese. Good shout on Furygan. I owned one of there jackets around 20 years ago, & had an off in it & it survived well. I’ve actually still got it hanging up in the garage. I always liked there stuff. Do they make 2 piece leathers?
best is you do some research on sportsbike shop or similar just to access the range of product available and then pop over to a store like bike stop or J&S both in herts and spend time trying stuff on
