1200 Diy Phone/nav Mount For Multistrada 1200

  1. Evening all, newbie here to the forum and to Ducatis! I thought I'd share my DIY phone mount solution for my recently acquired MTS 1200. I had an old GS where I had my phone/nav mounted up on the tower and really liked having the phone in my peripheral vision. I wanted to recreate that for the MTS whilst tilting the screen slightly to help with the airflow towards my face.

I knocked up a couple parts to hold a small aluminum tube and steepen the angle of the screen slightly, and printed the designs out of solid CF-reinforced PETG. I made a basic clamp to secure a RAM QuickGrip XL onto the tube.

So far I've put about 500 miles on the bike with this setup and it has worked great! I haven't had to tighten or adjust anything. I also made a simple USB socket mount which I attached to the side of the clocks.
I've changed the cable for a neater, shorter one now, but here are some early pics:

  2. Very, neat and effective. How does the increased screen rake affect airflow/buffeting?

  3. Thanks Coman :) For me it has helped reduce air that was being funneled into my visor. Others who've had a go didn't notice any difference, so I think it's quite personal and probably depends on rider height/position/helmet choice etc!

  4. I had a Twin Spark and I found screen spacers worked for me. I never had buffeting issues but the spacers made the airflow smoother.
I think your conclusion about results depending on all those variables is born out by the differing results posted on similar threads.
But the main point is your homemade satnav mount, which looks very effective.

  5. Palmer products screen mount is the best solution.

  7. Looks great! Are you thinking of selling them? And is that a custom usb socket mount as well?

  8. Thanks Dave and Tbay! Yeah that's just a little mount I made to hold the USB ports somewhere useful. I don't currently have plans to sell anything but if people really wanted to try one I would be open to putting something together :)

  9. I would interested in both the phone mount and usb mount if you were making any more

  10. I'd be happy to help TBay. I'd need to order some bits to make another full kit (stainless hardware, aluminium or carbon fibre rod, USB socket) so it would take me a little while to pull together. If you're still keen maybe drop me a PM and we can discuss further

edit: someone please shout if this breaks any forum rules. Apologies in advance if so!
