Hi all. I have a Multistrada 1200S Touring 2013 that has a misfire when warm The engine feels lumpy and you can feel the misfire. When I gun it, it pulls normally. I have checked the mfg wiring chart and it looks like the coils are the wrong way around on my bike to the wiring diagram ie the front cylinder HT leads are attached to the right coil, the back vertical cylinder to the left coil when the wiring diagram shows it the other way around? In your opinion, could this be the cause?
Have you tried to swap them over? Another thing to check is the evap lines/cannister. If there is a block maybe it could cause rough running?
I've not tried swapping them yet but will have a go. Where are the cannister and evap lines? Its strange that it runs smoothly when cold though? When it plays up, you have to be really careful with the throttle from tick over as it just stalls?
Doubt it would work if the ht leads were on the wrong coils. As long as the ht and lt wiring is matched to each coil surely it shouldn't matter?
Replaced the main front one last year so that should be good. The others are all original so could be a possibility.
I have the coils off the bike just to check if they are ok. Primary resistance on each is 1.2 ohms. Unlikely to be wrong as both the same reading. secondary from HT lead sockets is 15.35 on one and 15.6 on the other one. Slight difference but I have no idea if that is OK or not? I've scoured the internet but can't find what the specs should be for the coils? Has anyone got any idea?
I've had miss fires on my 13 twice with two different faults, first was the horizontal middle HT lead, second was the side stand switch. Stand switch was different symptoms to yours, it was cutting out at high revs but could be worth removing the switch, bridging the terminals and testing, costs nothing and worth ruling out.
Thanks for that. Just put it all back together, started up and pulled the ht lead off the side horizontal cylinder (easiest to get to) and no difference. Took the plug out and black and wet so it's that one. Now to check if its a dud plug or HT lead, or the side stand switch. The stand is really loose so I have a new one on order - one day this bike will run properly!!
You'd think these bikes would run ok on one plug but, they really do run like a bag of shite! The side stand switch took a fair bit of tracing, it was just worn and loose inside so throwing an intermittent fault at certain revs due to vibration, not saying it's your fault but, worth a look. It does sound more like a plug/HT lead issue.
The plot thickens! I've tested the spark plug that isn't sparking on the side horizontal cylinder and it seems fine with a multimeter (i need to check it's actually sparking but need a spare plug!) so pulled the HT lead and tested that and there is resistance of just under 4.4 so that looks ok. Tested the new main HT lead to the horizontal cylinder but it shows no resistance whatsoever! Ducati Coventry tell me they have a 2 year warranty so i'll pursue that. They also told me they have never had a bad one yet, and that the coils are bulletproof!
