Best Miles 200/55 Tyres

  1. 200/55 only, for a Superduke 1290.
Bike came on Bridgestone S22, which have lasted ok. Kept shape well. Around 2300 (miles for you lot..) and close to wear bars. Looks like another 200-400 miles in them. Hard to tell if they will just suddenly ‘go’ and be ok when leaving the house and arse twitchingly bald on return

    To the point. Replace with:
    S22
    New S 23
    Conti Road Attack 4
    Michelin power 6

Got an Italy, France, Spain trip planned on the KTM and would like to eek out the miles from one rear!
Quickish road use only. I doubt I would really notice a difference between the makes, apart from the obvious, going from worn to new tyres!

Priority is maxing out mileage and I tend to be at the higher end of (rear) tyre wear, so anyone who has actually used the above tyres, exp welcome. As usual there are million points of view on tyres, so feedback relevant to the above tyres appreciated. :upyeah:

  2. I got around 1700 out of the original S22 rear. Switched to Rosso IVs and have over 4k on since and still going strong.
Cannot fault the grip wet or dry and I prefer the profile over the bridgestones for turn in.

  3. Easy winner….Michelin Road 6

All our guys use them, as much grip as you’ll ever need on the road, brilliant in the wet and you’ll get over 6,000 miles out of a rear, one of our guys has just done an 1800 mile European trip with them fitted to his Pikes Peak and the tyre doesn’t even look half worn.
I use S22’s on my 899 and get about 2,500 miles from the rear
I use Mich Road 6’s on my Ninja 1000SX tour bike and get easily over 5-6 k out of them and they really keep a nice round profile to the end of their life, recommended.

  4. they do a 200/55 Road 6…?

  5. Unfortunately the last time I looked they didn’t as I would of happily put them on my bike

  6. Afraid not.

  7. I’m sure a 190 would do fine for a tour

  8. Me too. Been advised against it though for insurance (France) as KTM here only recommend the 200 for the Superduke. A bit mad, but suggested could be a problem if there was an accident/claim.

  9. Good question. There aren't enough options for big miles when it comes to a 200/55.

Two Tyres - Motorcycle Tyre Finder - 200/55-17 Motorcycle Tyres

The Conti Road Attack 4 isn't available in a 200/55 but the Sport Attack 4 is:

Continental ContiSport Attack 4 - Two Tyres - Discount motorcycle tyres

That would be my choice if you want to get the most mileage. We have customers getting 4,000+ miles form a rear compared to circa 3,000 from the OEM S22. Or you could stick with a Power 5/6 and replace the rear abroad if you need to. (In my experience most half-decent bike shops carry a good range of Michelins).

  10. To be clear, 4,000 + from the Sport Attack4 ? ( not road attack)

  11. Yes, it's probably the highest mileage 200/55 out there. I cannot say this for certain as I haven't tested everything and everyone's mileage differs but the SDR eats tyres and the SA4 seems to be the one people gravitate towards. Not just for the mileage but the tyre has a firmer carcass compared to the Michelins for example which helps the bike feel more precise (and helps with mileage).

  12. Ok, I had good experience with the road attack 3s on my GS. A little slow steering but superb road manners and serious grip in all conditions.
Im due tyres soon, so could give the sport attack a try and have a good idea which ones to choose for the set after, as the trip is next year anyway. Time for my own review.
The 1290,s can be heavy on tyres for sure, I had one of the early GT models and the rear never lasted long! Some of that I am sure was down to poor suspension, a situation much improved it seems on the later R version looking at the nice even wear and lack of drama on bumpy roads o_O
My S22 rear will not see 3k, for sure, but it is still better than the comical 1200miles I had out of a rear on an S1r, though I cant remember what the (very sticky) tyres actually were on that :joy:

  13. Best way to do a trip on one rear with a 200 on is to ride like Miss Daisy , or you could put your favourite on and change mid tour for a new rear . Only an Idea but have this arrangement in Spain and will allow similar bike to have the option , expensive but a Tour is a Tour lol.

  14. Why isn’t a Pirelli on the list?

There are 3 grades of tyre below the supercorsa, the Diablo (can’t remember what it’s called now) will do good mileage

  15. Gone with S22 again. They held shape well and no substantial fall off in performance at end of life.
