1260 Have The Urge For A Multi Again But Do I Go With A 1260 Or Spend More On A V4s???

  2. Still don’t understand the obsession with fuel tank range, it’s not the Kalahari desert you are crossing, they have fuel stations all over Europe.

    I’m ready for a break and a coffee after a tank of fuel anyway

  4. Getting the fuel warning light after 160 miles is a thing of the past for me. I do big mile tours and don't want to be stopping every 3 hours or so for fuel.
     
  5. Ignore the fuel gauge, it’ll do a lot more than that. Unless you ride everywhere in 2nd gear!

  8. I personally went for the Rally for the larger tank, and it's just nice not to worry about fuel. But my main reason was the small improvements over the original V4 multi, mainly they moved the stupid phone pocked out of sight - massive win! BTW, small tip, it's great posket for a little power bank, which you can charge up on the go, and then have it available as an emergency for your phone.

  9. Then compare like for like before criticising. The Rally has a 30 litre tank like the GSA and has a similar range. Andy

  11. Called into the newly opened Ducati dealership 30 mins away, got to sit on the Multi V4 Rally and the GT versions, Rally just felt too big. They are having an open day on the 14th with Charlie Boorman and others officially opening it, shame I get back from hols that day otherwise i would have gone. I am going to book a test ride on a V4 for when I get back.

    Shame they didn't have a PP I could have seen in the flesh as the more reviews i'm seeing on YouTube the more i'd like one haha...

  12. For me the 1260 is the ideal balance of character, functionality, power and weight. A bigger fuel tank means more weight significantly above the CofG.

    I agree with the other old farts on here, currently my bladder control is pretty respectable but the want, not really an absolute need, to walk and stretch every couple of hours is my ideal. Stopping to look at the scenery, chat, have a coffee and not rush is all part of touring on a bike for me. I tour for pleasure, not to torture myself. 200 mile maximum range is more than enough, with a stop around 120-160 miles about right.

  14. I agree with you here. Personally, I don't think the fuel consumption should be a deal breaker.
    Choosing between the 1,262 cc V2 and the 1158 V4 should focus on other things.
    If I were a long distance road warrior, which I'm not, perhaps a bigger smoother bike would be preferable.
    For me however, the 1260 Pikes Peak is already big enough to handle the tight twisties I tend to ride on.
     
  15. Could not agree more, whilst I like getting a decent run from a tank, it's very low on the list of wants and needs from a bike.

  16. Test ride both back to back
    U did and chose the 1260 1- insurance costs 2 bike costs 3 19 inch front
    V4 is 3 yrs in development so edges 1260. In several ways seat more comfy skyhook is a bit better adaptive cruise works but only u can decide L twin v v4
    Fuel consumption is moot as u would rather stop after 100 odd miles to test up
     
  17. Not that you should decide on a bike strictly by comparing and contrasting the engine, but if you did it would look like this:

    V4
    More top end power
    Smoother engine
    Longer service intervals

    V2
    More lower and mid range power

    Consequently for touring and notwithstanding fuel efficiency, the advantages would favor the V4.

  18. Currently Ducati offering £2.5k off a new V4S, Rally and GT. Looks like an update is imminent so buy wisely.

  19. Yeah seen that advertised last week, tbh I’d be buying a 1 or 2 year old one unless there was a major update and real reason to hang on to a new model?
     
  20. Anyways looks like I’ve got a V4S test ride lined up for early next week, looking forward to seeing how this engine and the bike weight all comes together on the road…
