1260 Knee Replacement And Multistradas

  1. Just got back from having a total knee replacement on my right knee. In my painkiller and morphine haze I was just wondering if anyone else with a multi has experienced this scenario - can I ride again, issues with insurance, any affects in cold weather, knee bend angle things, anything else?

  2. My wife had a partial knee replacement July 19th, she has just started driving a manual car, I can’t see her getting on the Multistrada just yet, we plan to try her on the Himalayan when I get back from Europe. We heard total knee recovery is quicker than partial.

  3. I had a knee replacement 5 years ago. Do your rehab and take your time when you get back on the bike.
No problems with insurance , or even with a pillion.

  4. This is something I’ll probably face at some point in the future. I try to keep everything round my knees strong with regular training. Fairly gentle jogging and squats. None of that Cossack dancing though…

  5. Do your physio and you'll be fine.
You'll find out if you have problems when you start riding again.

  6. I have had both a full and a partial knee replacement. As long as you do your physio the strength will come back and you will be fine. No problems with insurance or pillions.
It took me 6-9 months to get back on a tall bike, but I am only a hobbit.
The bend in your knee will never be quite as good as it was before, but good enough to ride an adventure bike. Sports bikes can be a bit of a challenge for me, but that may be because of scar tissue, as I have had too many operations on the knee.
My knee can get a little stiff in cold weather, but not as bad as it was before the op.
You should be fine. Keep taking the pain killers, do the physio and get back on the bike when you feel comfortable.

  7. I had TKR aged 46, 12 years ago, (see avatar) first couple of rides it felt a bit strange, but as already mentioned, once you are clear of your Physio and have FULL <knee bend> movement, it feels no different than before. (kneeling is a different issue, mind).

Take your time, it'll be right as rain in no time.
