V4 Assorted Questions

  1. Hi

I bought a Rally back in spring and have been having a blast on it for some 7000km now. A few gremlins have showed their ugly faces however.

First off, I have original TPMS mounted but haven't given them a second thought until last Friday when I got a flat some 500km from home 10 minutes before every shop closes but got lucky to find one still open that took care of the flat for me. Strange thing is the TPMS said nothing so I have been trying it out. I can start the Tyre pressure calibration and get a completed message but no pressure is showing in my display. I have lowered the pressure after setting it to see if it throws a warning but nothing. Dealer effed up the pdi?

Second thing is turning lights. I have switched auto off back and forth a bunch of times but I can't get it to work. Must always turn them of manually.

Third thing is aux lights. I have connected them to the wires behind the side fairings but they are always on no matter what i try. I'm supposed to be able to turn 'em on and off with the light button on the right side? I did a voltage reading on all 3 cables from the bike and one is ground, middle gives out 10 volts and 12 volts on the third one. What gives?

    Thanks in advance

  2. The tpms has a code that has to be entered in to the bcm for it to work. Only a dealer can code and unless they wrote them in the service manual, it’s a tyre off job. I had the same issue, easily fixed but a pain. No idea on the lights.
    Thanks

  3. Long press on the light button should turn them on/off. I suspect this is the same as the TPMS suggestion above, if you have fitted them yourself it may need a code setting on the bike so the switch recognizes they are attached - definitely worth asking a dealer. Personally I would like my lights on all the time rather than having to remember to press the switch every time I start the bike:). Hope that helps, Peter

  4. I agree, I’d much rather they stayed on, I’m always forgetting to turn them on again after I stop for fuel

  5. Thanks guys.
Can I buy any software that works to code TPMS and aux-lights? I have more than 300km one way to the dealer and like that R R Martin guy wrote, winter is coming =) Like Hex-net for Audi and wv

As for aux always on it's a nice thing to have until Po-po comes around and smacks a fine on me. Like all good eyeservant I want to be able to shut them of =)

  6. Can’t see any reason why you would get a fine for having them on?

  7. Here in Sweden we are not allowed to run aux-lights (fogs) in combination with dipped beams, only with parking lights or drl's.

  8. Ah, makes sense now! Didn’t realise you were in the Nordics

  9. Also the case in the UK I think, officially, unless it's foggy, and of course our dipped beams don't turn off.

  10. But they are not fog lights, they are running lights. incidentally, I’ve just got back from Germany and was stopped at a routine police check point.
they got quite upset by my running lights as they have blue LED Angel-eyes. Apparently only police vehicles are allowed to have blue front lights. I got away with it when I said I was heading for France, and he said ‘France? OK, I don’t care then, off you go’

  11. You love a bit of bling Peter!

  12. The TPMS sensors each have a unique serial number which has to be coded to the bike, done through DDS by the dealer. It sounds like the dealer may have omitted to do this. Once correctly installed you can, via the settings menu, have the current tyre pressures displayed on your dash. The low pressure warning comes on when there’s a 25% (iirc) drop in pressure from that which you’ve set.

I’m not sure by ‘turning lights’ whether you mean the indicators or the cornering lights. If the latter they illuminate automatically if your headlights are on but not if you’re just running on DRL but you’ll only notice it when it’s dark. If the former the self cancelling is actually quite a long time after the turn. Once you’ve activated it in the dash settings as auto-off do a turn and just leave them, it’s a good 20-30 secs before they auto cancel. Mine are on auto-cancel but I’m always, as a matter of habit, cancelling them immediately after the turn as it seems ages (far too long) before they auto off.

If you’ve fitted fog lights yourself to the fog light wiring they need to be activated, again via DDS, by the dealer. Once activated a long press and hold (3secs I think) on the light switch below the start button will turn them on or off.
