After riding 3 hours or so, the (OEM) exhaust manifold starts to pull away from the (OEM) headers by 6-8mm; it's as though the springs aren't strong enough, yet they seem ok. I've tried loosening the (GR Moto) silencer and realigning to check that there's no tension there. I put some exhaust paste around the manifold to ensure a decent seal with the headers and there are no leaks. Perhaps its trying to tell me to take the baffle off the silencer, which makes everything more exciting, but the noise is too much for my ears. It's no bother really, and I don't think it'll unexpectedly spontaneous disassemble, just mildly puzzling. I don't think it used to do this, but perhaps I'm twisting the throttle more enthusiastically now. Any similar experiences?
No such issues with SC-Project. Is it possible that the silencer may be a few mm short and allowing the headers to separate? I'm not dissing GR Moto but I've never heard of them. Where are they made?
I don't see how silencer length would be an issue because its strap is clamped up after everything has been aligned. Thanks for your thoughts, though. Usually, 2 springs are used on opposite sides of each pipe, but not here. That does allow some movement, and so I suppose that the manifold seems able to walk out until the spring tension increases enough to prevent further travel.
@yelloman I only suspected the silencer as a potential culprit as there are no other solid mounting point between the engine and the tail pipe. Can you double-up with another set of springs?
