Finally out of the UK, a same Dyno willy-waving comparison contest between the MTS1260 Pikes Peak, MTSV4 Pikes Peak and the MTSV4 RS. What's more important: girth or length? Who decides? Unfortunately, no thrust torque stamina figures. Summary
Picture quality is not very good so I can't make out actual figures but the RS and PP looks to be about what everyone expects
Zoom in on the pictures. PP looks to be low 150s, RS about 165. Part throttle graphs would have been interesting.
That is interesting. What that’s telling me is the PP develops more power until the tacho goes past 10250rpm. That’s quite an eye opener and has probably made my mind up on keeping my PP for a bit longer.
PP = Road (same as a standard V4) RS = Track on the Road a basic V4 multi £17695 will be quicker from A to B than an RS £37959. So unless you’re a track god or simply like to have the ultimate save £20000 and enjoy the comfort
Just done a quick comparison and the PP and RS have the same gear ratios except for third gear, 36/20 vs 34/19. It’s the final drive F/R sprocket that’s the big difference, 16/42 vs 15/43. Andy
Hmm. Im sure one of them losing 20-30kilos would make for a clear winner on the road, without even considering torque.
I take it both bikes were completely stock and didn't have the race exhaust or/and link pipe fitted ?? Is it fair to conclude that the PP is the better road bike and the RS would shine on the track ?
I just got up to almost £42000-00 ticking most boxes on the configure that I would like. Think I will stick with the V4s GT
Yes. All three bikes are stock. What's also interesting is that the V2 1260 Pikes Peak makes more power than both V4's under 8,000 rpm.
Wouldn’t that only be the case if the RS produced more power much lower in the rev range? It has to get to 9000rpm before it matches and betters the PP. That’s a long way up the Rev counter and a lot of gearing change to make up.
On the 1260 I tried individually 2 up at the back and 1 down at the front and both together. The latter option was too much and made the bike frantic. I stuck with 1 down at the front. I fully expected to be carrying out a similar mod on the V4, but the gearing feels perfect to me. You'd suspect the gearing on the RS makes the bike feel as fast or faster than the PP, when in reality, you're spending more time further up the rev range. Which, given the spec of the bike, is exactly where you're supposed to be.
yeah yeah yeah and yet........for all those seemingly irrational reasons I'm still in love with my V4RS
Whichever PP or RS makes power wise at whatever rev's I would guess that very few will notice the difference anyway unless you are laid on the tank going down the main straight at Mugello. My takeaway from the RS chat was that the stradale engine (albeit a little strangled for 'touring' credentials and emissions purposes) has more top end power , but to take advantage of it you'll be doing ballistic speeds anyway, and a few less hp mid range but compensates with slightly shorter gearing giving a more involved 'sporty' feel. ??? Personally , I'd still pick the RS as IMO it looks better and has that whiff of exotica. (runs and hides)
