Hypermotard 698

  1. I don't ride on motorways but was out for 8hrs on Sunday with very few stops to get my miles up and my old body coped.

  2. I stuck with the Termi’s they were on the original, cancelled order I picked up after Chris found it going. But weighing up the power gain against usage in built up areas, I don’t think I’d go with them if I had a second go at it.
Riding partners have remarked that it can be pretty quiet if you just keep it sub 5k (in any mode).
I know everyone likes to leave bikes in Sport Mode but I don’t think that’s a good idea with this bike, given the nature & overcrowded island we live on. Ok if you aren’t going to hit any situations for a while but if you do, this thing won’t drop the revs & go all nicey nicey for you :)

  3. Understandable if the bike came with the termi's. Has it got the ECU and filter as well?
I've not ridden in anything but sport mode but haven't gone past 6k yet so that may change.

  4. The ECU gets flashed to take into account the changes to the emissions sensors & the different fueling because of the open lid air box etc.
I don’t know enough about the changed parameters but all seems ok this end.
It certainly is a fun bike - especially over 7k! :)

  5. I'd imagine as the full termi system is not road legal they don't have to comply with euro5 or cater for the cat so they can fuel the bike properly.

  6. Some exciting news. My son has bought an ultra low mileage March ‘24 RVE complete with full Termi system - and he wants to store it in my garage. We happen to be on eachother’s insurance. Result.

  7. A very quick question for owners. What is the diameter of the rear spindle, please? I have a single-sided R&G paddock stand left over from my SfV4S and would like to use that. I imagine it’s spindle pin @ 40.66mm is way too large. Thanks in advance.

  8. I currently have that problem with an old Multistrada but it's 21 years old with 20k miles on it!

  9. You may be if distance is in your mind on tortuous motorways, maybe a twin hypermotard would be a better option.

Although I found it comfortable on my day on one, put 230 miles on the test bike. However I’m hardened to discomfort as I a GasGas.

  10. Phoned my dealer earlier to see if i could grab a test ride on a(ny) hyper to see if it really is what im after, and unless i was willing to buy the s/h 950 they had in the showroom and go on a ride prior to purchase agreement they couldnt help me.
    Not very helpful lol.

  11. That's a crap attitude from the dealer - hope you told them what you thought of it!

  12. Crap attitude, Ducati Stoke gave me their brand spanking new 698 for the whole day for me to put a whole days riding on it Wales and back. If I do make another SM purchase or more they’ll be my first port of call. But far for you though, there must surely be another dealer localish?

  13. To be fair he said he'd sold "this years demo" which reading other threads you cant blame him for.

Other *local is in Maldon which is a complete ball ache to get to.

  14. I still can't believe that they did that, to me that was "above and beyond" customer service! I remember taking out a brand-new Chrysler Epsilon from a dealer in Horsham, The chap gave me no time period to bring it back, and no chaperone. I offered them money for the petrol when I got back out of guilt but they wouldn't take it.

  15. They were sound about it, I did warn them I’d be out all day as some dealers don’t give you long or at all.

Took it out at around 9:30 got back about 16:30.

  16. I love that generosity, the dealer gave the benefit of the doubt that you were a serious purchaser (i know this, but he didn't) and it definitely meant that they took a hit on fuel used (i assume?) and eight hours of (to be fair - unknown quantity;)) mechanical wear. There is one person on here who would view this as a selfish attitude, as the company risks running at a loss by this action, possibly resulting in redundancy for all it's employees.

  17. I did warn him I wasn’t necessarily going to buy one having GasGas700SM that I’d ridden up the previous day. I left the dealer with fuel light on and returned it with close to fuel light on.

I was running late and didn’t get time to fill the tank which was my intention.

At least I tested it properly for anything missed at PDI, which happened to my mate when he took a BMW 900 out and the gear lever decided to not play ball resulting in a recovery.

  18. They’re good guys at Stoke. I’ve bought two bikes from them.
