2014 Mts Pikes Peak Dss Error

Discussion in 'Suspension help' started by John Carbonaro, Sep 12, 2024.

  1. this is occurring randomly and now more and more. I had the bike read on the cpu and it shows the errors{see below} I am located in Thailand. A ducati self owned garage says I need to replace the two sensors up front for the suspension. cost is 6500 baht each. any ideas on things I can do before I bring the bike to the ducati dealer here. The dealer has ordered me a new instrument panel display which is washed out. The gas sensor is the second problem... than the rear accelerometer sensor is the third... why is this happening... is it dirty? how do I clean the sensors {if possible}

  2. I’ve just been through this on a bike, so have some direct experience.

    Firstly, the fuel (or gas) level sensor is on the same circuit as the skyhook suspension, or to be correct has a shared ground wire, so when you have a fault in a suspension electronic component it tends to through a fault in the fuel sensor as well although there may be nothing wrong with the fuel sensor. There’s a high probability you fix the suspension fault and the memorised fuel level sensor ‘fault’ can be erased and won’t reappear.

    Secondly the actual issue with the suspension may not be in the items which appear at fault in the Texa display but could be an internal fault in the main suspension control board which is housed in the big metal cylinder under the seat. Hopefully not because that’s an expensive item to replace involving replacement of the entire rear shock assembly.

    Thirdly, it’s not possible to simply clean the sensors, the 2 front ones are accelerometers, small black boxes with minuscule internal components which measure movement, it matters not how dirty the outside gets. The rear swing arm movement sensor is a rotational sensor and again it matters not how dirty the outside of that gets, the actual work being done is all internal.

    Your Ducati technician should run some tests to identify which component is actually at fault rather than just throwing parts at it. In my case, see the Texa fault list below (and there were more on a follow on screen including the fuel level sensor unit) it transpires it was the only the sensor on the triple clamp which was faulty and (unfortunately) the main SCU on the rear suspension. Although faults were indicated on the lower front suspension sensor and the rear rotational sensor those units were in fact fine.

    Unless you want to strip down most of your bike, and are handy with a multimeter and Texa, the diagnosis is best left to the technician.

    The front accelerometers are about €120 here in Europe which is about 4500Baht but I’ve no idea what Ducati charge for them in Thailand.

    On an aside, the Texa device you show should be giving more information than it is, is it up to date?

  3. wow... what an education you just gave me. THANK YOU!!I am taking it to the dealer right now.

  4. btw how expensive is the main suspension control board? any idea? what was wrong with your bike?

  5. It was a customers bike and the entire rear suspension unit costs about €1200. Sadly the silver cylinder part which holds the electronics in one half and the pump that compresses the oil to manage the rear preload is a non-serviceable item.

  6. Omg. Ducati could not take me in yesterday to put on their box. They will call me for when available…. So I wait… btw. I just ordered a new instrument panel as this one has screen problems.. hard to see clearly. Now that was expensive.. won’t have that for a month or more…

  7. Sent this to Ducati this morning:

    Morning DK I wanted to give you an update on the symptoms of what’s going on with the bike regarding the DSS error when I got on the bike yesterday I drove it to Cambodia when I first started the bike up no errors whatsoever bike was perfect no engine light ran great on the Sky hook system was like a pillow when I got to Cambodia. After I finally shut down and then a half hour later I went to start it And there was a DSS error. … when the bike is hot. No DSS error this morning. I got up from the hotel started the bike no errors on the DSS. Everything was fine. I hope you could understand what I’m saying. I don’t know what this issue is but I believe there’s a fault probably in the ground or maybe a short cable for the accelerometer….. what I’m reading on the Ducati Forum.
